Crystal Dynamics is looking for a Marketing Illustrator for its creative services group.

Crystal Dynamics is the developer of the latest Lara Croft adventure, the critical and commercial success "Tomb Raider: Legend". We are located in beautiful and serene Redwood City on the peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California.



Position Summary:


The Marketing Illustrator coordinates with the art director and external marketing departments to create high resolution pre rendered imagery based on wide variety of in-game and pre-rendered assets.



Position Responsibilities:

* Provide pre-visualization support for new intellectual properties, prototypes, and pitch documents

* Provide inspirational images for public promotion of products in development

* Work closely with the Art Directors to develop concept artwork that helps to define the overall look and art style for games in development in both 2D and 3D and help set a visual bar for the game teams

* The candidate must have a strong understanding of, and a desire to design, assets that fit within the given direction set by the client (Project Art Directors, Marketing Managers), able to professionally digest feedback and criticism and incorporate requests into revisions of work to meet the needs of the clients

* Mentor other staff within the studio on techniques used to create images and develop R&D demonstrations for other teams to use as learning tools.


Position Requirements:


* Arts related degree

* Must be a strong digital painter; should be able to paint and composite rich, colorful images in 2D paint using such programs as Photoshop and Painter

* Expert 3D knowledge of leading software packages such as Maya and Z brush. The candidate will need to light, model, texture, and render in-game assets to be enhanced in 2D programs

* Must be an expert in one or more rendering packages such as Mental Ray or Turtle

* Must demonstrate an expert understanding of realistic character creation from modeling, shading, texturing, to lighting and post production

* Able to self motivate, prioritize tasks, track and deliver the highest quality art while managing multiple requests from different departments

* Must show a portfolio that demonstrate both artistic and technical knowledge

* Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas, concepts, and approaches, to both peers project managers

* Familiarity with movie promotional art and styles. Knowledge of the limitations and requirements of the printing process


Experience level:


* 5+ years of experience in film/games industry

* A portfolio that demonstrates intimate knowledge of pre rendered and in game character work using Maya as primary tool.

* Experience with game asset creation and next generation engines such as Unreal 3

* Experience of working with high profile intellectual property and providing key imagery for established franchises

* Senior Artist experience within film or game development with exceptional 2D & 3D, traditional and digital art skills
