I was browsing the Epic Games website and noticed this in their "Now Hiring" section...

Flexible work hours; employees must be present during core hours, which are currently 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm

I was under the assumption that hours at a game studio were typically 9-5, although I've never looked into it. Are these typical for most game studios?

I don't know what's typical everywhere, but we have similar "core" hours. That means this: you must do eight hours a day, but you can pick when those eight hours are, so long as you are there during core hours. That allows people to sleep way in if they want, and still guarantees that there is a time of day at which everyone is present in order to hold meetings.

Ah OK, that makes sense. Thanks again Seedling.

that's actually a really cool system. I prefer to work into the night rather than the morning.
