Another Masters Of War concept pic now: The Necrogaunts, or 'Zoms' as they're often referred to (by me). At the right moment, the masks of these undead footsoldiers' slam open to reveal a hovering, irresistably hypnotic orb that forces their victims to step into nightspace, where they renounce all they hold dear in their desperation to escape 'the worst place in the universe'. No prizes what happens to them next - yep - they're 'conscripted' as more Zoms!

Wow! These images are really active and colorful. I hope there is a splash page of the oblitterator since your char. dsgn looks so viciously awesome. :uzi:

The colorist could probabaly mute the background colors a tad to pop the characters and maybe use fewer light/lens flares to increase readability. Looks action packed! Yay!

Thanks a whole lot there Bruceman - really appreciate your comments! We sure got a lot to learn here with the whole writin' and paintin' thing, but man are we having fun on the journey!

There's some ncredible action to come featuring the Obliterator (Kara and the rest don't yet realise that bucket of bolts has been built by someone who plays for keeps!).. so we're gonna have to do our best to keep our colorin' and composition reigned in enough so that everyone has got a great view!

Watch this space for plenty more searing sequentials and cool concept stuff..!

so this is like a direct cut of Battle Chasers by Joe Mad....

Not really - this is more space opera / horror / conspiracy-thriller (the story takes place amidst an alien invasion, in modern-day America). I imagine Battlechasers draws more upon D&D and other fantasy role players.

Visually BC was probably inspired by the same Japanese big sword & sorcery manga epics as I am though, such as 1989's Sword of the Beserker. Throwing robots & guns into the mix isn't Mad's brainchild either as far as I know, if I can point you in the direction of He-Man, Thundercats, Flash Gordon, Thundar the Barbarian, and a myriad of 80's-90's computer games such as the Final Fantasy series?

I agree with what your saying but two things just stick out hardcore for me referencing BC.. the main character, especially his custom / colors, and sword. The same goes for the big robot, from the shapes to the design & "glowing" symbols.

Not to say your stuff doesn't look good, keep it coming man. I just had to stick my two cents in about those characters.

I'm pretty sure the BC main robot was modelled on the Iron Giant, but thanks for the kudos all the same. I do actually have a character who's a wizard though, as we're not completely out of magic territory... I'll include him here for you, along with Thrett, our main sword guy...

Everytime I see that "Major Thrett" character come up, I can help but think he's Garrison from Battle Chasers..

Channel Zero, it's good to see you working towards a goal so hard. I'm not sure if this is all old work or not, but some of it does seem a bit rushed. And personally, I would either change the background color on those character pieces from bright blue to something that suits the style and atmosphere more, or just leave them white... the contrast is jarring, and fairly ugly with the subject matter... But keep on fighting the good fight. Hope you go somewhere with this.

(also.. is it supposed to be kind of slapstick and satirical of cheesy acion comics? I ask because Major Thrett is a very silly name, heh)

I'm not expecting any awards for particular originality, but I doubt 'Garrison' will either... a character from Namco video games called 'Strider Hiryu' springs to mind (see below). Thanks for the well wishes tho'! In regard to Thrett's name, I think Judge Dredd is a pretty silly name too, but it works for plenty of fans - the character and stories are generally 'dark n' gritty', but obviously they are also satirical and to be taken with a big sack of salt. Hopefully Masters of War will be taken in a simalar vein. Cheers to you too - v cool character designs you're producing! ^__^
