Fellow artists,

I need help! I'm making some art, but I need to know how to render glossy, shiny, mock-dominatrix style leather in high detail! Anyone with their mits on good links to tutorials, reference pictures, artwork through other artists, and the like, are all welcome.

That means nearly any gothic leather pics, glossy, 80's leather attire, straps and bands, rendered artwork, studs and spikes, any and all of the sort.

PS - ConceptArt.org kicks grass!

Thanks a ton,
Gekko

I'm not a well schooled artist, nor do I have many finished pieces, but I do think I've got the eye. The way I see it, black shiny leather is actually pretty simple once you've got the grasp of lighting. It's pretty much just straight black, with a very high shine where the leather reaches towards the light most. occasionally you'll get that really really glossy leather that actually reflects light over the whole piece, like a really really dark mirror, but that reflection, of course, is distorted by the shape of the body/object that's clad in leather. As far as references to share, sorry, buddy. I don't have any links for ya, but i do suggest looking up some stock photo sites, or maybe do an image search on altavista or ask.com. don't forget to cite your references!

There was a tutorial in last issue of imagine fx in the Q&A section of rendering leather I believe.. but other than that I recommend that you check up references from stockphotography sites and such.

Uh, thanks I guess...

References would still be nice. Just FYI.

This is when google or another search engine becomes your friend. I know people are willing to help when they can, but they gave you as much information as they could. I think it's time to start looking in a search engine because that's probably what they'd do to get the information you want provided to you.
