I'm painting a picture of Bob Marley for someone at work.
Here it is so far:

and here's the reference photo:

So now what I need to know is if there is any good way to go about making the knitted texture of his hat or if I need to go through and just add a bunch of black dots that will end up looking like crap.

If anyone can show me a good way to make this texture (possibly with examples I can view) I would greatly appreciate it.

And any other help you can offer would be great because I know you guys all blow me out of the water. But keep in mind it's only a WIP and I plan on fixing some things already.

ALSO this is something that has really been getting on my nerves for some time now. Whenever I save a photoshop file as a jpeg it always screws up the colors. I have no idea what to do to fix or at least counter this. Is this problem common?

If there is a better forum for this to be in, sorry. Feel free to move it.

Well a few things.

For the texture, you can download a seamless texture that is similar and use a different layer mode, like Hard Light/overlay etc. Playing with the layer modes can get you interesting effects and close to what you want. You can also learn to use the modes and combine a warp/distort to stretch areas where necessary.

The image you have so far, you need to work on several anatomy issues, his lips are not aligned properly and too small. In fact, because some areas are so distorted, his ethnicity is not apparent, where he in fact looks more Asian.

As far as color management, you may want to check your RGB settings in Photoshop and calibrate your settings to make sure it's using the correct color profile. I'm sure another member can give you more details about that.

He looks human? Hell yes!

Heh. Thanks, man. I'm going to go back and try fixing some of that crap tomorrow.
