View Full Version : Three Futuristic City Paintings

These are just some paintings done to support conceptual work. They are quite large, so might take awhile to load. All of them were done in Photoshop. Each one took a full day's work to complete. Keep up all of the great work everyone!!

These paintings are simply AMAZING! The use of color is brilliant, especially in the first.

My only crits are that in the second painting everything looks fine except the people to the right, standing in the purple light... they just look like they were put in there at the last second... I know they're small but they look like stick figures... I believe it'd be better that they are redrawn or removed, because they hurt this great painting.

For the third painting, I like how you seperated the foreground from the background elements with the use of color warm/cool... and I LOVE the atmosphere to the right of the painting... you can tell its a warm place that a bunch of the city folk are hanging around in... kinda like a futuristic bar/club. Any, the only thing that bothers me is the perspective of the hanging monitors on the left side... It appears as the the monitors hang past the balcony in the foreground, and as they go further back into the distance they move in so that they're right over the balcony.

All-in-all... GREAT WORK!

THese are great man. You've got a good understanding of how to paint in Photoshop. Most excellent. I wonder what brushes you used?

Come to think of it, this work kinda reminds me of Khang Le's... and that's a good thing.

Once again... great work!

Epic! Very Impressive! Do you create a line drawing on paper first then scan it in or is it TOTALLY done in Photoshop?
Crits: Hmmm... Can you make one with some insane depth or an alternate angle like from below looking up? Not really a crit, I just want to see it. :D

Nathaniel mentioned to me he and Khang Le went to school together. And yes, it is a good thing. I know it is no secret to Nathaniel that I am a huge fan of his work. It's really nice to see these 3 juxtaposed (woot for art school words) and in larger scale. The first one is probably my favorite. It has such a real "living" feel. The cool and warm colour areas are just fantastic in all 3.

Wha dup biaatchh! I see you've been holding out on us at school. I've seen the bottom two but the first one is real sweet ! Been secretly using the Craig Mullin filter eh? Remember that it's Shift Alt F4 then slide your mouse from side to side 4X then hit Caplock....hehehe j/k. Awesome job man and I can't wait to see you next piece :D

Well done...That second one has to be my favourite, mainly because it looks like the toughest one. The warms in the background transition nicely to the cool foreground.

Wow, fantastic stuff, it's a real treat to see work like this.

I'm probably wrong, but is the perspective on the second pic on the centre of the building just to the right of the middle of the pic a little off? just looks a little awkward to me. Damn nice work though and very atmospheric. There's some very nice stuff on your site, but this is even better :)

Nice!! They're all gorgeous, but the colors in that second are really nice! Lots of stuff to look at in these but not overwhelming. Give nice sense of depth and scale. Great work!

wow, i love getting into these lavishly detailed and cool cityscapes, i have nothing but praise for these :)

i'd have to say the second is my personal fave because of the massive scale shown.

Right now I've been messing around alot with trying to make things look less digital. The top piece was done recently, whereas the other two were done maybe 9 months ago. I'm just using the basic brushes that come with the program, but I then experiment with textures, and all of the little options combined together to see what they can do. Kind of just trial and error I guess, but lots of fun!!

I just went to Art Center, to turn in my portfolio, and hopefully I'll be joining you guys in the fall.

As I was leaving I found the skillfull hunter. Damn, I was impressed! This is one of the coolest concept projects I have seen. So many wonderful comps and sketches.

Khangle, can you please post your concepts from that project? I'd love to see them here on my comp, and I bet others will love it. :)
