this started out as an idea in my sketchbook that i did while i was working in the liquor store tonight (if anybody wants me to post the sketch i will; otherwise i'll spare you). I figured i might as well see if i could paint a version of it in painter (from my memory of the sketch; i left my sketchbook in the car and its just too damn far to walk and get it for reference), and this is what i have so far. It might be kind of hard to tell right now, but that is an angel he is grasping in his hands, kind of slumped dead-ish. I have nothing against angels, but the good guys cant win all the time.

i was hesitant at first as to whether i should just stop painting and cut my losses, but i think it's turning out o.k. Comments and crits of course welcome

P.S. while i've got you here

as the painting stands, he is looking toward the 'heavens' with the dead angel in tow:

but i painted a version where he is looking directly at the viewer which i think is creepy and i like:

or should i push his eyeballs back into his skull so we cant see them at all:

cheers

This is cool. I think the second from bottom is the best. The eyes are really scary in that one. I can't quite make out the angel yet.

take the black line above his bottom row of teeth out and detail in some of his mouth cavity so the bottom teeth read better. as i see it now the teeth look like they are spikes on his chin.

weird character.

I'd really like to see this where you haven't just focused on the face and torso of your character. Effectively, I'm just nagging you about not neglecting the rest of the image, because I love me some demons.

There's a strange disprportionality right now with the lower half of his body, may or may not want to look into that.

Whoa, crazy demon-head! I really like the head and face, but the body gets progressively smaller and smaller as you go down, so he looks way too top heavy.... Try making the head smaller and rethinking the position of the legs. Perhaps he could be crouching over the body....

Very disturbing - this one has punch in it. Very cool!

thank you for all the feedback! work has been kind of hectic lately and i havent had a chance to really sit down with it since i started it, but i'm off tomorrow so maybe i'll get somewhere

i'll defintately take it into photoshop and do some quick transforms on his body to help equal him out proportionally. as for his head (face/chin teeth) i was thinking about putting a second row of teeth behind the ones facing outwards that are pointing up...kind of like a sharks mouth i guess. also adding a lot more detail to the mouth will help that, i think

i cant wait to get started on this again!! thanks again for all the feedback

here is a quick and (suprisingly) painful update. I'm going to hold off on major changes until i actually get time to sit for a while, but i made some changes (changed proportions, cleaned house a little, etc...)

right now i'm wondering whether to move the tail or lose it, and if i should have the angel's sword poking out where it is or mayhap laying on the ground, or mayhap the angel was sent down with nothing but the force to protect him. I'm also wondering if he should have hairy Pan legs or keep him silky smooth and hairless until the hoof area.

the more i look at it the more i want to put a big X accross it, so i think i'll leave it alone for now and get some sleep. comments/crits welcome, and as soon as i get some time i'll do a decent update
