Hey guys. I like to keep things to the point, so here goes.... My cousin works for an advertising business out of Seattle, Washington and in his free time he creates concept art. He ended up getting several copies of Corel Painter X and passed a copy off to me for my birthday.

I have been going through all the various menus in Corel Painter X for a few days now, and I think I have the overall feel for everything but I haven't made much progress in creating anything.... Working with a mouse is proving to be to much of a hassle.

I am thinking about going with a Graphire 4 6X8 tablet (http://direct.wacom.com/stores/2/Graphire4_6x8_-_Silver_P41C16.cfm) but don't want to buy something that I am not going to be pleased with.... So... will I be pleased with it? Is it similar to drawing with pen and paper?

Thanks guys, keep up the good work. たこう~

I bought the 4x5 Graphire a few weeks ago ( good deals to be found at Taipei computer markets). For a few days I was worried that I'd made a mistake, but after ample goofing off I got the hang of how to use it. I'm making progress with digital painting with freeware programs and the no-frills complimentary software included with the tablet. Speaking from my experience, I'd definitely invest in the tablet, especially where you lucked out in getting a free copy of Painter X.

You would like to go for the INTUOS3 if you have the extra cash, also if you're more likely to illustrate on Painter or whatever software, Intuos3 is the way to go. Graphire is a watered down version, but it works pretty well. I owned both tablet and found that intuos have more control over it's wacom properties software which Graphire doesnt. If you're going for investment , intuos 3 it is.

I'll definitely look into it FlenG. I plan on selling a lot of my old consoles for a tablet, but I really can't be dipping out of my pockets. In a few months I am actually going to be studying abroad for a few years. It's a bit bigger too isn't it? Bigger is better I would have to say.
