or equivalent.
A lot of people here I've seen say that intuos is the way to go. Yet I don't have the money to get one, so I've settled for the smallest, cheapest one (it was even on sale. $75)
so if you guys don't mind, I'd like to see what you can do with a 4x5 graphire can possibly do. :)
EDIT:If this is in the wrong section, a mod can move it to the appropiate place.

I remember HPX had a 4x5 Intuous at the Montreal workshop. And the amount of work he produced over that weekend could have filled a portfolio. I started with a 4x5 graphire and it served me well for years.

Size of tablet is a matter of personal preference with little influence on the quality of the final product.

QFT.
Some people actually prefer smaller tablets.

Yup, I tried a huge Intuos (12x18? bigger?) in Uni, it felt more like painting a fence than drawing to me, if I won the lottery tomorrow I'd still want something that fit comfortably on my knees.

The only thing about the 4x5 is I've found it's murder on my wrist after a couple hours work (I have the next size up, which is plenty).

Graphire works just as well as the intuos, what intuos offers is more control over it's stroke and other attributes. Graphire is solid enough for doing illustrations and Photoshopping. But if you want crispier line-arts and controls while doing CGing the intuos it is. A good investment. I still use my graphire when I travel.

I have a Genious 5x4 for a year now, still works fine. I thought it would be a risk taking anything except for wacom (I really didn't have money at the time), but I am satisfied with it. Regarding the size, haven't tried anything bigger but this seems more than enough for me.
Also, I think it's the skills that matter, not size :D

Anything digital you'll see on my website was created with either a 12x18 intuos or a 4x5 grapphire, I challenge you tell tell them appart.

Might as well be comparing penis size. :P

I'd go for Wacom and not other brand, distinctly because wacom has the patented battery-less stylus pen that no other company have. You don't wanna draw with a battery in your pen or a stylus pen with a wire dangling from it's butt right?

Kool - I'm in the same situation as you as far as money is concerned. I purchased a 4x5 graphire and I love it. My style lends itself to a smaller drawing area so I don't have a problem with the size. But, as Mirana mentioned, you do tend to get fatigued in the hand and wrist from concentrating on one area so much. This is remedied by conciously relaxing your grip and taking breaks at regular intervals. I think you will be very satisfied with it, I certainly am.

I'd say size doesn't matter except for the wrist thing.
The only thing the intuos offers that would help other than size, is more buttons, a grip pen, and 1,024 pressure levels as compared to the graphire's 512 levels, grip-less pen, and limit of buttons.

Screen resolutions depend as well.
Since I moved from a 17" with 1027x768 to a 19" with 1280x1024 with my 4x5 graphire, it's only more anoying IMO. And thus It'll work better at small resolution due it's small size. I'm probably wanting a A5 size tablet, since I find that as well big enough for me, when I tried it out from a fellow student at his notebook.
Though, I should learn more to use my shoulder more with drawing. Might also help for a bigger tablet.
