This is a concept for a painting. i'll be working on (maybe).
I usually dont add alot of guache, but on another post i was told my drawings looked flat. This time i tried to up the contrast. If anyone cares, i could add on the drawing before i went guache crazy and also before i added the text. I'll probably try a new comp again with less guache once i get some rest. Comments welcomed.
I forgot to mention i used reference, if that matters.:D

I like this. I see you used mos as your inspiration for the words. I like your guy too, but I also suggest that you spruce up the contrast. you darkest darks could be darker, and the same with your lights.
cool piece!:)

The first drawing looks like shit, after spending sometime away from it. Here's another one. C&C welcomed.

i like the face better in this second one. much more character to it, also it looks more real. did you use ref? cuz i'd be interested in seeing it (if possible) my guess is that the second resembles the ref better than the first.
only thing is, that the brightness of colors in the first brings a freshness and "happy-feel" more than what you've achieved in the second.
on both counts i have to say GREAT job, though. Guache ain't the most friendly of media, and you executed it well!
EDIT: OOOOHHHHH SSHHHHHH111177777! IT'S SLICK RICK!
i went back for another look after posting and His Highness was smiling at me through your painting. i'm ashamed i couldn't tell before! big up, dawg!

dats a great painting... =)
hey i was ink!!!!! so mos remade that song? so mos was influenced by slick rick...
and so why do i bring this up???
this is one of my peeves!!!!! i know some aspiring artists say im influenced by this one but never get to the source :bash: and never see past the finger- they should find out who inspired the one who inspired them.....
so mos got those lines from slick rick... get it-- got it-- good--

Yeah I thought something was wrong, I knew Slick was the hip hoppster to the lyrics. Off the subject tho nice rendition of the dude Tho I think it doesn't really look like him, may be just a bit and maybe because you might of used an old ref. Never the less it looks better than your first try Alger Langdon. Good look'n

thnx for the replies...
I.was.ink: thnx for comments. I might add just a tad of guache in some areas the 2nd one to spruce up the contrast.
leroy: thanx yo, on the second one i avoided the guache. It's prismacolor pencils over ink wash (ala Coro). Yeah the 2nd one is closer to the reference. I added the reference pic on the bottom of this post. It's from the back of the Great Adventures of Slick Rick album cover.
sepulveda: thanx, maybe i should try another that's in between too much guache and no guache. For this piece i wanted to do a tribute to one of my favorite songs.
shyst: you're right, but i didn't want to go off topic.
AmadorL: Yeah the reference was old. It was from his debut album from 1988 i think.
