This is my first time posting in the conceptart forums, but i've enjoyed looking at the inspiring work that shows up here every day and I decided I might have something to contribute. I'm getting ready to begin my second year as a design student at DAAP (http://www.daap.uc.edu), but most of these drawings were done a couple of years back. They are mostly charcoal drawings done on 18x24 newsprint.

these two self portraits took about 30-40 min each, the proportions are somewhat off on the right one

this is simple sketch on smaller paper using pen and graphite

gesture drawings are the essence of figure drawing, so here are a couple 30 second drawings

the next few are working with light and shadow overtop of gestures, roughly 10-15 minute drawings

Looks like you had a teacher that encouraged experimentation. :) You have a variety of techniques you've used, and some are more successful than others, but trying new things is always good in art, I hear.

I wouldn't say it's always been encouraged to experiment, but yes i've tried many different styles hoping to come up with what works best for me. I always seem to end up either too careful or too reckless with my approach to drawing, or at least it seems like that. here are a few more including a still life... thanks for the input jeff! any more oppinions would be much appreciated :)

Hmmm not much to crit.. just some minor anatomical issues that can be fixed by drawing and learning from your drawings! Other than that, I really like these. I like the different techniques you used (I love toning the paper with charcoal and then erasing for highlights). Keep it up man, theyre starting to look really good, just keep working on your anatomy!

Hello, this is my first post as well and I would just like to say that drawing people in some of those positions are very hard. Most people try to avoid drawing hands or the miniscule parts of the human anatomy, and I am always big fans of those who are not afraid.

Great anatomy! I don't really do the real life style but it's important to know your anatomy so I have been doing some as well. Stay tuned. ^_^

-Great Job!
