Here are some sketches of mine... I figured I'd start a sketchbook, since I don't remember if I started one already or not. >.>;;

Good start so far, are you going to continue working on the sketch of the building that's above the picture of the apple? Would be nice if it had the same tonal work which the ones preceding it has. :)

Hey, nice to see you have started a sketchbook. I really like the studies you are doing with the apple and the mango. Looking good. :)

You last one I'd have a look at the composition of it - while it may be accurate the picture feels lopsided and then cut in the middle by the sand.
Try fluffing the clouds a bit more thay are quite thick and heavy looking.

Here's a small update... I messed with the cloud in the last picture and stuff... it looks MUCH better now... at least, to me. Hopefully you guys'll feel the same? And then some anatomy sketches I did... just 3.

And I know Aeris is way overdone, but everybody's gotta do at least one pic of her... lol :p j/k
EDIT: bah, looks like a line got erased on her dress... it's not closed like it should be. I'll go back and fix it soon... this is unfinished :p

A continuation of the pic posted above... I think it's turning out well. :)

Your Aeris head looks flat. Her eyes have the same shape in depth and the nose and mouth are more placed at ther right instead in the centre of her face. Make sure to use guidelines for face placement, you will have a better understanding them.
Keep on going, the environments are a nice excersize.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that the nose and mouth aren't placed correctly and I was going to deal with it a little later when I figured out how I wanted them shaped... I just slapped these on there so I wasn't painting a person without the rest of her face. :p If I can trim her head a little and make it look "not fat" (:p), I think it'll look good in the end. This'll be the first finished character piece I've ever done, so I'm already proud of it. :p Most of what I've done before are landscapes and objects and some sketches of people, but no images of people that I'm exactly proud of yet.

Hi Zoe :) I read your post on the girlie forum regarding no crits, so I figured I'd stop by. I agree w/ Whitevillage that environments are a nice exercize (actually, I should be doing some of them myself :dur:) The fruit studies look great. I'd suggest posting some more pics of people you have drawn, either from your imagination or life studies/sketches. Fan art is ok (I've drawn Aeris myself years ago! :bashful:), but it's always good to show what else you can do, you know?
I'll check back later to see updates... and don't ever be afraid to ask questions :tihi:

Actually, I don't draw much fan art at all and this is the first piece I can remember actually posting anywhere. :-p I saw this pose in an anatomy book and I was looking at some FF7 fan art at the time and realized that I'd never really done any fan art before and so, there she is (albeit unfinished).
Anyway, I'm doing a crappy update at the moment... I've been scrambling so much recently to find a real job somewhere that I haven't had a whole lot of time to draw. I did these little sketches earlier just thinking about some different light sources... lanterns and braziers (the bottom one inspired by World of Warcraft :blushes: :p) and whatnot. I need to draw more often... >.>;;...

...Zoe, the digital cloud work going on is nice; the Aeris character is coming along alright - but, do you want her to be more Manga style, or your own?....
Also, do you have any pencil on paper work? I find it difficult to crit if your only using digital for your progression; its easier to rub out your mistakes and re-paint in digital, so I dont know how much anatomy studies you are really doing to help yourself. Please, dont be offended or discouraged by my request, but IMO I think it would help you more-with recieving crits- if you drew more FIRST on paper...

I would do more pencil on paper stuff, but I don't have a scanner at the moment nor the funds to purchase one... :( The one I did have doesn't work anymore... >.>;;...
I do anatomy studies in painter all the time, but most of the time, I don't save them generally unless I think they look close to the way that they should. I usually only show people stuff that I'm at least semi-satisfied with or something that I'm intending to finish, even if I don't end up finishing it in the long run. I don't know why I work this way... maybe I shouldn't. I dunno. That's why I'm here, though, I guess. Maybe I should start saving more of these anatomy studies that I do...

your doodle in painter is nice! Very atmospheric and moody. :) Is there a storm rolling in, or is the sun setting? Either way, the only thing I think is missing is maybe a secondary light source for the other side of the tree...
