the perfect lense

sorry about posting all the questions but I wana make a new investment, I have alot of studio classes coming up and I've grown very fund of people photography. I wanted to know if any one had ne advice on a good lens to get that works well in low light situations such as concerts and such as well as portrait and action photography. I was looking at some of nikons telephoto and zoom lenses. any tips or ideas?

If you want something good for portrait, action and concert photography then prime lens is the way to go. A 'nifty fifty', or 50mm f/1.8 would be a good idea to start with, they are inexpensive, very versatile and good to have in your kit. Aside from this, if you want a zoom/telephoto then something as cheap as the sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 should be able to cover most of what you would be doing. Finally, the nikon 18-200 f/3.5-6.3(?) is amazingly versatile so you may want to look at that as well.

Im looking at the Tamron 17-50 2.8.
It has got pretty good reviews and its decently priced. Im thinking of replacing my kit lens with it.

Nikkor 18-200mm VRII could help in lots of situations but I don't have one to show you any shot with it...

o thanks guys, i was also looking at the 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor,dang klips that lens on that site is like walking around with a rocket launcher!,o i looked at the sigma its on sale now it can also switch to macro hmmm also took alook at the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG and the tamron that u mentioned daniel seems good as we and what about the 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom-Nikkor
