Nice works here, and good use of markers.
I like the poses and the "mood of skinny girl" on your stuff.
The only thing that bother me is some too visible seamless whit Charest's work, like this:

the first two ones aren't as strong as the rest, but those others are simply great.
i keep thinking that the one with the two girls would make a great tattoo for some reason.

Very good stuff here, congrats.
It reminds me Feng Zhu artwork.

These are great! The mechs especillay are superbly detailed.

Also, there's something a bit retro about-looking about these (80s I think), maybe because they're rendered in markers. I think it's very refreshing.

March 28th, 2007, 09:17 AM
Very cool, I see I've got something to learn here, being a frequent user of markers too :) Awesome.

The anatomy is a bit questonable here and there, specially the transition from body to legs in the front views. Mainly in the first drawings though.

March 28th, 2007, 10:33 AM
Mmmm, there's some really arresting images here. I'd really like to see the tone and palette.of them worked up more in some of them.

Very sexy... I see that you like your women bald! One additional comment: the motorcycle and its exhaust. Simply impossible and ridiculously phallic. It doesn't work for me. :}

March 28th, 2007, 04:48 PM
Hehe, I think you can at least crank out girl a little better than the Feng, but I'm not going to diss the Feng of course. His environments rock!

I agree with the afore mentioned exhaust. Good stuff though! Tight! :)

March 28th, 2007, 11:38 PM
Jolly good work!
I like your use of bold linework and tone to describe forms, you pulled it off well. Sometimes its nice to get those really solid clean lines in there! Gad thats an ugly motorcycle! And I thought mine was un-ergonomic looking :)

Hello Serj!

I may have missed this part when not looking through all the comments in this thread, but, what kind of markers do you use? Do you begin with ordinary pencils and advance with ink and marker?

Lovely work! I like every part of if!

May 23rd, 2007, 02:27 PM
Amazing work Serj! If you don't mind me asking, what do you use for your white highlights? I'm having trouble finding something satisfying to use for white highlights on marker.

Robots + naked ladies = goodness.

I like the older work that shows how you build on your sketch with the markers in a very painterly fashion. These have a nice solid look to them.

Good work.

Very Impressive Marker Renderings....

May 23rd, 2007, 09:04 PM
Your work is truly inspiring. I especially like the camoflauged sniper, the attention to detail is superb. You mentioned using Copic markers, could you possibly try to explain your technique a bit? I've just recently started doing marker sketches I'd really like to know how you achieve that amazing look. I'm currently using a 20 set of Staedtler fibre-tip pens, but I'd really like to get a set of Copics once I can afford it. Just out of curiosity, how many markers do you use?

solidcube
May 24th, 2007, 01:28 AM
You think these are good, check out his real gallery here:
http://serjjart.com/?c=2

And cry.

All I'm saying, Serj, is that I think you must make heavy use of a ruling pen.

Because these rule.

Chermilla
May 24th, 2007, 07:29 AM
Incredible skills you have! I really dig your style a LOT. I'm not really into the whole naked girls in skimpy underwear thing BUT you do it well, and I love the cyborg/mechanical influences throughout and the oversized weapons and armor.

Do you use pantone pens to do these? Because I tried using them once I found it pretty hard to do, plus they cost SO much money to buy!

Is there a certain set you use, colour wise? I'd love to know!!

Thanks, and keep posting.

Derek Gores
June 6th, 2007, 09:06 AM
Like everyone else, I love 'em. However I bet you are hoping for a challenge in the remarks somewhere in the posts, so here goes: Everything is so high contrast that I bet you would find quite a challenge depicting a scene with lots of space, lots of layers of complex figures in a busy environment. (Currently every little piece has extreme lights and darks). Basically, I'd like to see you try something with some atmosphere and depth, instead of just the detailed figure in shallow space. Go for it!!

2nd challenge: Your range of mechanical forms is quite broad. Your organic form range is much more simplistic. Try to go nuts exploring how to render life with the same enthusiasm! Cant wait to see the results!

You might enjoy some of my work.

You rule man!!!

Your works are awesome! i love especially the Archer woman, OGRS and knight! the last ones are breathtaking. You use Copic Markers buy i would like to ask what paper do you use. Lot of people say they prefere normal print paper instead of special paper for markers. What is your opinion about it? you are one of the best marker artists here so i would be grateful if you could tell sthg about it :D

and one more... have you got some tutorials to show us? that would be AWESOME!!! THX :D

I love your style, really interesting work you have here. I could be looking at it for hours. One thing i'd like to ask you is if you could give some insight in the process, what material (i already saw the pictures up there) you use and your workflow.

I think your style is really unique in itself, but many people (or at least I) would appreciate it.

Another thing is, if you ever have time, why don't you drop by the Character Of the Week section. It would be indeed very funny to see some entries from you there.

Anyways, keep posting you're 5 stars guy.

This is a stylistic quibble and not specifically directed toward you...

Those cartoon-stylized orcs are done to death. They were done to death back in the late 80s when Games Workshop was still pioneering the style. And then of course Blizzard came along and took it even further.

See if you can make them sinister again. Originally they weren't supposed to be these somewhat dopey comedic figures; they were supposed to be scary.

The technical execution is of course amazing, on all of it. Keep it up!

BTW what are the specific brands on your white stuff?

Ryan DeMita
July 10th, 2007, 11:54 AM
dude you've got mad skillz with the markers. respect. i like your tech work more so than the figurative stuff. i think your figures are simple compared to the complexity of the machines, props, and the like. they may benefit from more definition of form to make them pop out. in some images, your figures work because of the nice contrast of detailed mechanics and the simplicity of the figure. regardless, this stuff rocks. keep it up!
