Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all that are interested but the 3 artist have been chosen and I will not longer be excepting anymore offerers thank you.
ARTIST PICKED:
Martín Montalbetti
Robberto Fernandez
Michael Buffington Jr.
Thank you for your interest and maybe I'll have some other projects later on for those who were not chosen. Thank You!8)

I am trying to start my own graphic novel and/or a 2D or 3D animated short but I cant draw to save my life so after visiting the site/forum several times I noticed that the people here are some of the best concept artist in the world and I was hoping that some of you would be willing to help me out.
I will pay the first person or persons (no more then 3 separate artists, any art posted after the first 3 artists will not be paid so I hope you read this), $100 for all 3 pictures but only after you sigh a contract which will be made available to all artist/s. Please if you do draw spread your posted pictures out between several weeks so that I don't go poor paying you. I am in no way a professional, I am a college student that has always wanted to get into animation but as of now am out of school and working for a big delivery company. I don’t get paid much otherwise I would be willing to part with more for your hard work. I would like to thank everyone willing to participate in the project and if it ever gets made you will be credited for it. I am sorry I cant have more then 3 artist but as said before I’m not rich.

Now, on to the characters I want designed.

The story takes place in an alternate 1930s; in this alternate 1930s, a mix of steam and electricity runs the technology. (So is a steam/cyber puck like sci-fi story).

The main character is a smuggler who used to be the best pilot in the air force before getting kicked out. (Not sure why yet because the story is not finalized at this point in time.)
He is a rough but hansom 30 to mid 30s year old man who hates the air force. He passes him self off as a delivery man for the rich as to disguise his smuggling jobs.

The main character has a robot who was his co-pilot in the air force this is a military robot that is big and tough looking but not to big as not to fit in the plane he was stolen and reprogrammed by the main character to help him fly on his delivery/smuggling runs. This robot works off of a mix of steam and electricity its eyes change colors depending on its mood and modes and it must have a steam release valve some ware on the head or shoulders.

The third character is a female who is a singer at a club (30s style) she just so happens to be a spy for the bad guys she is a very hot and slender humanoid alien. The main character is in love with her and goes to the club just to see her sing. He talks to her allot but never really lets her know his fillings (at least not until later in the story)

These are the tree main characters of the story there are lots more to come but since the story hasn’t be finished yet I’m not sure of all the characters right now but there will be more added later on.

I also need designs for locations and vehicles and for the 30s style world/cities but all this will come later you may do pictures and designs for this as well but please only post them after you have received money for your character design and ask me first to see if I have the money to pay you.

If no one is willing to participate please at least give me links, websites and/or names of people who would be interested. This is a small project so no big companies.

If you would like to contact me please e-mail me at dandaddunn1@yahoo.com (I get a lot of junk mail so please put “concept art project” as the e-mails title, Thank you.

Some questions, ANSWERED!

(:aq:)Is that 50-100 per character, or 50-100 for all 3 characters?
(:aa:)I have changed it to $100 for all 3 character.

(:aq:)Do you want just exploratory sketches, or a finished, colored, polished concept for each?
(:aa:)I would prefer a finished and colored character. But if you want you can post non-finished pictures so I can see what direction you are going in.

(:aq:)Do you have any preferred style, such as "Manga/Anime" or "Like the Starwars art" or anything? Or do you just want what the artist has to offer?
(:aa:)Any style you wish is fine with me.

Thank you for the time if you read this and I hope to see some great art.

Good luck in your search for a good candidate. I may apply soon if my schedule permits!

Just to be clear, are you expecting potential artists to design the characters and send them to you and THEN you decide which one you want to pay?

This is called specwork and it is very highly frowned upon in the art community. It's like asking all your little neighbors to mow a corner of your lawn but only pay the one who did the best job.

You should look at artists portfolios and then pick one who's style you want, write a contract that includes a number of revisions so that the final art resembles what you need and work with this person.

Self respecting artists usually do not engage in such deals.

This link will give you more detailhttp://www.no-spec.com/

Thank you Qitsune,

Someone mentioned specwork to me but I did not understand what it meant until now thank you for the good analogy. I am new to the art (concept art) world and have never heard of that before, my intentions were in no way meant to force artist to do work and not pay them and I have now removed and revised my first post. Sorry for the trouble.

I had noticed that there are allot of treads where people draw like the thunderdome and C.O.W. and thought they were drawling those of there own free will so I thought that if i offered money to them they would be more willing to draw for me on there own time and maybe get something out of it, i did not know it was frowned upon. But just to ask does anyone know if you get payed if you win C.O.W. or thunderdome or is that as i stated above just for fun.

I am going to add this to the first post so if others have the same questions they have them answered.:perv:

No, you don't get paid for winning COW or a Thunderdome, but there's not a third party getting a benefit out of it either. A lot of those things are also meant to support the ConceptArt.org community, which has given so much to its members for so many years. You're specifically asking people to do something for you that you can't do yourself, so it's in no way the same thing as a community activity.

Hey it's all good, I'm happy that it was just a mistake and now you know what specwork is and you understand. I hear it's use in other fields too so it might be useful to you later.
