View Full Version : Joyful Art

Over in the Art Discussion forum ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1264495#post1264495) some of us got to talking about the perceived lack of feeling in current illustrative art. Specifically, a current trend is to make images that are cold or emotionless.

So, my thought is, let’s take a look at some of the more joyful work we have produced. What have you made that has been uplifting, warm, or humorous? Share your art here, and share your thoughts. Can art be joyful without some sort of misery to contrast it? Is humor possible without sarcasm or cruelty? Where is the line between “uplifting” and “cheesy”?

I’ll go first. . .

NICE Seedling. :)

It's a lot harder to create "happy $--t" IMO because you sort of need an adequete (sp?) background or something else in the piece to convey exactly what it is the main character is so happy or cheerful about.

It seems a lot easier to draw someone/something smug, angry and.or dangerous.

I'm working on something cheerful atm and will post when it's ready.

Cool thread :)

I had lots of fun painting one of my dogs for the first time. This photo of the painting is a tiny bit over saturated :( but, I think it gets the point across. I looooove dogs and I love my stupid little yappy bitch, Atari. She makes me all warm and fuzzay and giggley <3

I can't say I've ever painted one other uplifting piece, sadly. I should do that more often... But, I do make a whole lotta stupid happy silly vector illustrations constantly. Usually puppies and cute animals.

I told my friend Entdroid that everything she ever does fits in here, brings joy to me at least :)

I persuaded her to post a few things.

Hahah, thank you Tommy for the intro :P
I think everything I do has a bit of humor in it. I can't think of any greater joy than making someone smile with something I did... I guess it's the main reason why I draw in the end :) And I think humor is possible without sarcasm, although I do enjoy sarcasm too every now and then :P

Here's some of my stuff...

Here's a little bunny man I did in CHoW a little while ago. He likes flowers

speaking of cute and joyful tugs to the heart, if you want to see something really adorable:

I drew this to bring a smile to my roommate's face. It worked. And yes, that's a butt kazoo.

Drew this a couple years ago for a friend - it's one of her characters as a trigger-happy pony.

I'll be back to post more, I'm sure. ;)

Great paintings Stephen, your work fits this thread perfectly. I think you should put a link in your signature to a gallery of your paintings. I browse the community activity threads sometimes and Its always a pleasure to see your entries, but thats the only way it seems anyone can see your work.
