Hey, these are pretty good. Are you using both ink and pencil for these? It gives a nice style to your rendering. I'd love to see some more, looks like you could have some cool ideas for a comic.

Wingg: thanks a lot for your comments.

Pyroclasm00: Thanks you. And yeah, i usually draw the general idea with pencil, then i use ink for details and then pencil for shadows and volumen.

markey2d: hey man, thank you, I'm glad you liked my buildings :) . To your question, i try to draw very thin lines when doing buildings, so then i retrace the lines i want with ink. But those 2 are my first 2 attempts to draw building scenes.

Undergroundsean- Thank you for your feedback, but yet, there are still flaws in my Character drawing which i'm trying to improve.

Comic Update.
A few more recent designs of mine for the comic. These are a design for a the Rank of Captain for the same sort of soldiers and other ideas.
As crealy seen, i tried to mix the medival greek helmet with the last helmets i had design, I think the mix gives the Captain a "legendary" figure.
Any comments could be great. the sword is really bad, at least now i know what not to do. :)
I hope Stygianlead keeps liking my armor soldiers after these :) .
Have a nice day. thanks for stopping by.

Comic Update.
Updating after a while.
This is a drawing I made like 2 weeks ago, I felt the need to draw a sort of dragon, i had never draw a none human animal so these is my first attempt.
The soldier standing in front of the dragon went to piss and the dragon came :). I desing the dragon not to fly too much, so thats why i made its wings heavy and with some honrs that it uses to balance its body while walking.
Note. the original drawing its 2 inches lagger by each side so sorry for that :)
I hope you like it, or something about it.
P.S. sorry for my english. Thanks for stopping by.

Updating for the day.
The soldier was based on a 3D model of a chinise soldier for Battlefield2 and I tried to made it more... organic. And the Iraki woman is based from picture I found on from the web, i thought her expression in her face was very interesting. Well, thanks for stopping by today. Later.

Updating.
A a drawing i made of Hemingway using dots, dont know the name of this kind of style in english, so, sorry. My first and last time using dots to draw, not because it was hard, but because, I'm not interest. But, its still one of my favorites.
And a more "cartoony" phase of mine. Both are 6-5 years old.
More updates in mins.

Many of the ink and pencil drawings feel too busy to me... You have details, details and details (especially your clothing folds seem too wild, a fold's purpose in a drawing should be mostly to define the form underneath, not stealing the show) and quite little variation in line width, which in my opinion makes for some confusing pictures. You don't have to detail everything. Some, more uninteresting parts, can be lost in shadows... learn to just hint some of the details (the viewer will fill the rest in!)...

Hey! Nice SB you have here! I like all the creative pieces. My favorites are probably the dragon and the head from #23. Most of your heads seem a little off, so I'm not sure what you did different with the one in #23 but keep doing that! (Talking about the first picture on the left side).

Well like I said you have some real nice stuff in here, keep updating I'll be checking in on this one!

Ajaysighn - Thank you a Lot, i love to draw from my mind, and desing new things. Im in a phase where i have to create lots of things for my comic to come alive and for you too like my creativity makes my day. Thank you.

Bhrazz- Thank you for dropping a line here. :) you have a COOL sb too.

Dmitry- Thanks for your comments. Its my style. Sometimes i had to stop myself from going into much details . Ill try to do more of excersices on the things you pointed out and i Bow to you. Thank you.:D Im very happy for your comments.

Clocks thanks you for checking out my sketcbook, I hated that head, but if you like it maybe it wasnt that bad lol. Thank you for dropping a line you have a great sb and lots of talent.
Ex Nihilo Im really glad you like my stuff man, I'll work on Dmitri's crit.

dmitri
April 25th, 2007, 08:00 AM
I'm not saying you should completely drop the details - just saying that they'd be more effective if organized more properly. Even with the ants in a forest example you have a priority, a reason why you are drawing the picture - the battling ants. If you were to render this sort of a picture with everything at the same detail level and the same line weights (and no other way of directing the viewer to the ants either), the cool ants would be terribly lost. Don't you think that would be a shame?
Your pictures do have some direction, I'm just exaggerating a bit here.

These aren't of the very best quality, but take a look at some of Mucha's posters (http://www.muchafoundation.org/mucha/showroom.php?rmid=3) for example. Lots of details, folds, swirls and other tiny treats all over the pictures - yet, even the most detailed parts don't feel busy. The pictures are pleasant to look at, you quickly see that there's a female figure or two and so on. It's a compilation of many things, but one thing keeping the details in control, serving what is portrayed (instead of taking over), is the coherent use of line weights. The bigger the feature, the thicker the line and vice versa. Since it seems that you are working with line a lot, it would probably be beneficial to study what sort of tricks you can do with the lines alone.

I envy your patience with the details, but a little more of that patience could be used when drawing the figures. Like in the last picture you posted, the guy in the center seems to have no crotch, his hands are of different sizes (both very large)... Little stuffs like that. ;)

(Now if I could just listen to my own advice... :\)

Vigilandus
April 29th, 2007, 11:07 AM
Can't crit much but I do know that you have to watch it with the outline of your lips. They shouldn't be as dark and solid as the rest of your lines. If you want to draw three strokes to make the lips, you could try to draw lighter lines for the top and bottom stroke.

KromNz
April 29th, 2007, 07:53 PM
Thank you for your crit Vigilandus and for posting here, I'll keep an eye at my lips, I promise I'll try to work at it more.

You seem to have a whole universe inside your head, and I think that working more on your comics would be a good incentive to practice and improve.

Some of your sketches, especially among the female outlines, are very good, but you sometimes lose concentration on body consistency. You catch some face expressions very well too. The sitting Catwoman sketch is yummy - simple and well balanced, and the first Batman is stunning.

Your fantasy architecture is well worth exploring and developing, it will be of great value in your comics. Could you tell us a bit more about the project?

About your latest picture: The dragon is wounded or dying, right? The attitude is well rendered, but I was looking for a visual clue about what happened just before the scene.

KromNz
May 11th, 2007, 11:54 PM
Hey Leo Ki, thanks for your comments. You are right on with your crits, my consistency is a huge problem I find, trying to fix that right now doing more studies getting more xp.
You place a smile in my face, I'm really glad you liked that Catwoman its my favorite of all females or superheroes i did.

About the comic, its about story i have being working on for the last 5-6 years, and not long ago I wrote a "script" for a 30-40 pages "comic". This story in particular its about one captain(post #16), his last 20-24 hours of his life, fighting a war for a country in another planet. I'm trying to include in this planet, many fantasy creatures like dragons, and giving them my own aproach as with the dragon concept, as well as some creatures of my own.

Right now, everything I'm showing are concepts for ideas, I'm sorry for not showing what happens before and after. But as soon as i start to draw the comic, i really want to share some pages with this community.
Sorry for my English. Cya :)

Deon
May 12th, 2007, 03:39 PM
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook - some really nice designs you have here - especially the armour and our arcitecture.
The only think I'd say is you should try to build more depth in your scenes (like witht the soldier looking at the fire in the distance) with more contrasting layers, setting the backround apart from the foreground. Try to control what the viewer should look at by leading his eye with contrast.
Keep up the good work.

KromNz
May 13th, 2007, 07:05 PM
Hey Deon np, your sb is pretty good. Thank you for your comments man, yeah you are right about that, that concept in particular i did it a couple of years ago, I don't know if I'm trying to fix it, but lets say I'm experimenting. Brigging so much chaos to a single frame, while keeping the main action a first, second or even 3rd plane or layer.
Thank you a lot again for your comment. I'm taking notes about what I'm doing wrong and ok. :)

That king image is looking pretty sweet. I like the throne in particular. The figure could use some more contrast, though, in order to make it the focal point.

Nice to see you're still at it. Keep going.

KromNz
July 11th, 2007, 12:23 PM
Hey Ex Nihilo, Thanks for giving me another visit :) YAY!; Yeah man, your comments about the king are very right, I'll try to finish it today, I wanted to make it as you comment with a strong light presence frome the top, so you could barely see the king's face, and make the throne and his costume my focal points, why? I have no clue lol. Thanks a lot for you visit man. Cya later.

Some nice stuff here, that last portrait of a soldier is really nice - the rendering especially. The only thing that lets it the eyes, they seem off...

I really like that dragon as well - its good but the tangent where the wing appears to touch the head is off putting. Hope you dont mind did abit of a paintover

KromNz
July 16th, 2007, 03:30 PM
Hey Kovah oh man thanks for your crit, you have a sweet eye, you pointed out somethings i knew and others that i had no clue. Yeah, the wing its like that cause its using a horn you see over the other wing to walk and balance(couldn't scan the whole thing), but yyea :), i alway felt that there was something missing there, now I know :P thank hehe. Anyway, the dragon its blind lol, at that time the dragon doesn't know where the soldier is, I want to make the following frame where the dragon finds the soldier and hell of a fight happens against the dragon and a squad of soldiers.
Again THANKS A LOT for your comments I will try keep improving and please i dont mind about the paintover i was surpriese that you took the time to do it :). Thank you again.

Yo siempre estoy tratando de aprender mas in anatomia tambien. Bien trabajo!

That large piece with the 3 characters seems really daunting. Good job on finishing it!
I'm not sure what the brief said the requirements were, but I think you could have really pushed the action and drama by giving it some more depth and "clutter". ie. more troops running in to fight, bodies laying around from the seconds before the current scene., or one of the 3 characters taking care of another set of enemies in the background.

Just random thoughts I had while looking at it, yknow to give it a more lively feel.

hey Aveh, thanks a lot for your comment.
that painting in particular was epic for me, I spent a long long time and made soooo many mistakes with it and tried to fix those mistakes with my limited skills lol.

I understand your idea about more troops running and fighting in the back I also thought it could have been cool adding more action and chaous. But since the time was running out to finish this I just tried to be as faithfull as possible to the description, and only adding that one of the bodies that were on the ground to have some life to imply that the fighting might continue.
hehe a cheap and /or bad solution lol
thanks a lot for your comment man.
have an awesome day.

WOW!

Keep up the good work!

I would recommend you to draw lots of heads and anatomy, the faces you draw dont look too good and too bad because you have great concepts.
also draw more from life like environments and urban, it will develop your visualization skills and will help your work to appear more real in regard of lighting/shading.
good luck

hey some nice stuff in here, good colours and generally pretty decent environments.

My only crit, is that ur anatomy really lets ur work down, Its fixable, just get down to some studies and really nail it.
your figures look rather static and dont convey form very well, but again this is fixable with studies.

I not being horrid, just a critique, cos if u sorted ur anatomy out, ur work would look 10 times better! seriously

All the best

something a bit out side of starwars hehe... I really needed this ;)

This pic started out a few weeks ago as just a painting practice, my goal was to paint some guys face and that would be it( the blond guy's face which I later changed it to the one you see now)

I liked the face and decided to paint his body, then his alien buddy, the girl and so on lol. Thats how I created this pic and it was very fun but there were many moments in which I wondered if I was ever going to finish it hehe.

I hope that this is just the first of many other concepts about the story I created for them.

Hola!:D

WOW! really nice paintings, colors are real joy to watch.
Your detailing is really good.

I just have a lil advice that might be useful, about environments, to apply more atmospheric perspective (lost of details, lost of contrast) would really help your image depths, and would help popping out your beautiful characters even more, that s just my humble opinion.

But anyway you are doing way better than i am, and i love your stuff.
Will come around often :P

hehe I do love starwars!
Thanks man, I am glad you liked the helmet :D!

This is a 3D model I did to speed things up a bit for another SW pic I was commissioned to do, and it is a good way to get back into posting more 3D work. hehe
The whole scene was made out pretty fast and with around 8k faces, I tried to keep it "simple" since I'll be doing some paintover to add more details ...stuff and the character lol.

note: I have no idea how it will look when its finished...lol

Some character designs I did over the summer for a personal SW project which is sadly on hold until I have more free time to work on it.

Some of them will have a major role, others or all, would just be extras.

Thanks for your visit!
Have a great day!

Very good designs Aldo, I especially dig the second one. Very neat.

Only crit on these is that the head on the first one is oddly rotated. Also, in general, sometimes your rendiring is too smooth: some "faceting" and hard edges go a long way some times. Hope that helps :)

Hola!

Hi, long time no see. I see you completed the SW illustration with the imperial ship on the background, great stuff. and the girl in the field, amazing, to me one of the best in your sketchbook. how long did it take to do that one?

As a first small project together, we chose to do a group of characters inspired in Halloween. This is my little demon :)
I started out with creating the first 4 character shapes(to the left) and picked up one to do. From there the character took a lot of evolution hehe.

I hope you guys like.

Back!! :D
So a yeah ago I moved to Canada from Mexico, to join Vancouver Film school's intense 3D animation & VFX program, we barely have time to sleep but at the end I felt I learned a lot and it was worth it, I made awesome very talented friends and also got a chance to meet many aritists I love, and would love to work with in the future.
Anyway, now one week away from my grad :), I want to get back into my forgotten and still very hungry sketchbook and fill it up with some of the stuff I have been up to this past and present year.

my apologies for you guys for the long reply but better late than sorry.

@ exodusparadigm: thanks a lot for the crit! yeah I noticed that very late ... I was laughing at the mistake.

@ Pixie Trick: Thank you!

@Turbosnail: Thank you so much!

@Cameli: lol I dont know man, I try to learn as fast as possible

@Lyno Thank you!

@Kambei Shimada: thank you!

@xbert thank you!! yeah learning how to paint hair its been most challenging...I will keep working at it. :)

@Junpei: thank you!

@ole-x : thank you!

@CarlSpringer: thanks man, yeah I felt that I am still a bit shy when it comes to use colors, with those two I was trying to use more colors, and experimenting.

Ok here are some of the work I did last year starting from the oldest.

*the first one was the last painting I did before going to Canada.

*second another skin tone study.

* the 3 picture, was interesting, It was one of my first assignments in VFS and I had to come up with something really fast. Done in around 10 hrs.

Over my first term I found myself with lots of free time, and since the school was open 24hrs! well...I went ahead and started practicing some Zbrush sculpting... here is the first result after 8hrs straight lol!

KromNz
March 7th, 2011, 02:33 AM
back in Term 2 we had to do many assignments which actually helped me out a lot in learning more about anatomy, organic shapes and hard surface shapes, characters, vehicles and environment modeling, it was crazy!
here are some pics from my modeling assignments.

the female and the male sculpt were done in a very short time, maybe 6-8 hrs each
Bane took a while longer to do, 2 weeks for him, I built a base mesh in Maya, then took it to Zbrush for sculpting and texturing.
Corsair was done in maya.
and the environment was done in 8 hrs or less. Yeah the school pushes us to be as fast and efficient as we can with our time.

In conclusion I felt I learned a lot in this term.

Check out Bane Turn table here!!! http://vimeo.com/20719549

Term 3 we had to present the teachers with ideas that we would like to go for our final Demo reel! Very stress ful times. but also a lot of fun we bc we go to explore many different Ideas.

These are some rough sketches I did until I found the one I was going for my Modeling demo reel, which is the last.

It was funny bc before I came to VFS I had my idea in my mind about what I was going to do (the witch and the dragon) but once there I had many many others ideas that I would love to do, so I began exploring and concepting ideas, in the end, my love for SCi fi won! while watching Alien (1979) so thats how I got the idea to do the corridor, and from there it grew much larger.

Please check out the link for the Final Animated Storyboard.!!! :D

@ Parsakoira: Thank you very much! Yeah it was my goal to make the 3D be more like a painting, and then I had the challenge of making my paintings be more like the rest of the reel haha. The picture of the Alien its an example of that, the creature is 2d but the environment and the tentacles was in 3D, this was also because I had no time to build the creature in 3D, I only had one day. So making a painting was the fastest solution.

@ LA-Fairy: Thank you!!

@ Hellbeard: thank you!
