Hey everyone! This is one of my first posts here, so be gentle ;).

Thats the initial sketch. Turned out okay actually.

And this is where the problems started. I had a few big ones around the face, and thought I should just erase it. I had major problems with the eyes.

I had major problems with the lips too. Is that even the right skin color? Yikes.

This was the first image I ever did in painter, turned out pretty interesting.

this one contains nudity, so...just fyi.

I had to do that picture in an art nouveau-ish style for my painting class, but it didn't turn out to well.

Thanks for getting this far.
I hope to read some comments from you.

keep at it man. I think the color you have for the skin is good... to tell you the truth the color doesn't matter that much. I think it's a little on the red side for "normal" white-person skin, but whatever. I think the trick to skin tones is to use lots slight color variation. use some very dull cool greens and blues in the shadows, and just make sure the values show the lighting you want. Work on it and post more so people can give you more tips.

i think that working from white is your main problem, not thinking about light.if this is in photoshop, try slapping a multiply layer on top with a dark warm grey, then with 100 opacity and a sorta big brush block in light sources. also a good grey scale can always be turned into color!set you brush mode to color or hue, i'm not sure which works best.
