Compress images, they shouldn't be more than 200k
Topic: Oversized Weaponry
Background: Bigger is better taken too far. Something of Heraclean proportions - like the bow that only Odysseus could string.
Brief:
1. Design some big-ass weaponry.
2. It should cause the most damage when used in it's intended way, not when dropped (although causing a minor earthquake is fine).
3. It can be unwieldy.
4. Bonus if it strikes its enemies down with awe.
Deadline: Thursday 29th March
(2 weeks because I'm moving to Mexico and that should give me a few days to get settled in before I have to post another one)

I'm thinking a big ass mace on a chain attached to some sort of swinging mechanism.

Ha! That'd be awesome Moai. I was thinking hi-tech at first, but now I wanna do something medieval to go along with my waterfall city.

Go with the mace idea if you want, sofa. We're two imaginative young chaps, and I'm sure we could both come up with unique designs.:rendered:
Thinking about it just now, my mace idea isn't nearly as simple as I one thought. I'd imagined the mace swinging horizontally to smash into a wall or something, with a counterweight on the other end. Now, I'm thinking, there's going to have to be some mechanism to fling the mace into the air before it gets swung, so that the energy can be used to swing the already moving and airborne mace into its target, rather than using most of the energy just to get the mace and its length of chain off the ground and moving at a decent speed. I know very little about the physics and engineering involved in things like this, so it kinda hurts my brain to think about it.:S (Don't know much about drawing these things either, but that's a pain for later.)

this sounds cool. I'll try it.
ok. never tried this section out, so i don't know if this is too unfocused on design... but I think it shows the design I went for pretty well. And how to aply 'em.

"I hear theres a riot downtown... I'm so tired of this constant struggle to survive. This 'urban war' has gone for 30 years and I'm sick to death of it. apparently so is the government, wont even
acknowledge its existance. People fronting with their suposed to be cool guns. The youth of today have no sence of style and class, especially not in weaponary!
Fucking ridiculous. rollin downtown with their high tech pulse guns, thinkin their the world. I brake'm like twigs. One might think they should have learned by now that they never win.
Every one knows that ya don't mess with Arthur 'guns' Rascow and live. My guns shoot fucking cannonballs! They think they can survive a cannonball to the face?
Best check that riot out."

Wow, that is pretty insane. Love the right up,great character concept. I suppose it really isn't an "industrial design", but it is a big-ass set of weapons!

This weapon is based on spinner fireworks and cannonballs. Dropped onto a battlefield/city/target in clusters, these Spin Bombs free fall to earth, decimating all in their path. They land with explosive impact, crushing structures and artillery. As the dust settles and the balls come to rest, the balls begin to emit a bright blue light.
Located on opposite sides of the ball are two blast nozzles. The nozzles are positioned to fire in the same direction, spinning the ball wildly. Due to landing all higgildy-piggildy, the nozzles are pointed in different directions on each ball.
When the nozzles fire up they send the balls ramming about, into each other and their surroundings. This method of movement is extremely random-making it very difficult to defend against. This also allows the balls to travel further than their initial landing, so several clusters could cover several square miles.
I hope you all enjoy my take on this, i look forward to seeing yours.
Thanks

just to get this out of the way:
this is my first presentable piece done in Painter... until a few weeks ago i was strictly Sketchbook Pro. this is a WHOLE different world O_O - this is also the first picture i can think of that has two lighting sources!!! haha! i am such a noob :D
i might add a background, i might flip the picture, i might add wear and tear, i might add unit emblems and the like... right now its 4:14am and its time to go to bed :/
yes, it looks like killzone/jin roe's bastard child, but no reference was used. period. glowing goggles kick ass, and so do weapons attached to one's body in order to aid with their girth :D
anyway, its not as over the top as the other stuff here, but its still a big ass weapon imho ^_^

Lieutenant Holmes told every member of team 06. It was strictly forbidden to use Tech-bot weaponry. Especially to try any modification on it.
But have you ever try to stop a Galactic Commando Field Sergeant from using the biggest gun he could find...
...even if it's originally wielded by a 14 feet high robot.
Anyway, Sergeant Butters and his oversized weaponry were much welcome on the battlefield.
And soooOO efficient !
Had a great fun doin' this one. Hope you'll like it.
A bunch of nice ideas and original styles in here. Keep pushing the limits guys !

spitch, that is fantastic! The butt stock on the gun is ridiculous, but adds to the idea that it's oversized.
legato, congrats on your first dual light source and Painter piece! cool design, while it looks good, reference only makes it better. too true, glowing goggles are rad.
kryonimus, i think you need something in there for scale- in my mind he looks like a crab so i think he's crab-sized. otherwise he looks pretty imposing.

BALANOVSKY - Spider Cannon - These 550mm shell cannons were originally designed as static defences. A fundamental flaw in the manufacture made them wildy inaccurate. Before the de-commisioning of these economic catastrophies was complete, bit & parts were salvaged and canabalised from the remaining 18 guns to create smaller mobile versions.
The cannons were fitted with custom made airburst magnesium alloy scatter shells, which burst over a large area and rain down a blanket of with a white hot chemical induced magnesium, which although makes for an inhumane weapon is very effective at eliminating advancing forces or in some cases entire armoured columns.
The Balanovsky gets it's nickname from the silver web it throws over it's targets as opposed to the eight legged form it takes on while fully deployed.

Crafted my by a deranged mage the gloves of Lupine Fury were discarded as a failure. Unbeknownst to all its primal influence only works on the weak willed, and grants above all an unequaled yet completely unjustified sense of power. It will turn even the most timid idiot into a bold fighting machine, in their own mind that is.

Chris, neat concept, i'm not so sure it fits in with industrial design or the "over-sized weaponry" theme though. i might be wrong, i'm a bit new to the weekly contests.
great idea for the gloves- but do they actually make you powerful or just give you confidence to fight like crazy?
ATAnderson, i'm sorry i didn't get to see your design, hope you can get it on here again.

I know I'm way overdate, and I'm not trying to join, but I just did this for fun since it seemed exactly that.
Beretta modified to fit cannonballs and mounted ontop of a ballista frame.
Second smaller barrels is costumizable for either infra-red aiming device for non angular/straight shooting
or light flare with an exact same travel trajectery as the cannonball bullet would have at an angle.
Selected a wooden carrier frame because if damaged due to knockback or bad terrain it can always be repaired
with trees found on or around the battlefield. Chances of finding metal are much lower.
Bullet type was selected to be able to eliminate multiple larger units due to a pinball effect as well as cause structural damage. (crossref nose of sfinx in egypt).
As well as the ability to keep traversing even after hitting ground hence mowing down a straight line of smaller troops. (crossref civil war, but more effectively).
Angle can be set precisely due to the system connecting it with the ballista frame. (crossref that old game with two cannons trying to shoot eachother where you had to input the number of degrees to hit the other cannontower)

"upon realizing he was paying far too much for what can, at best, be described as mediocre coffee, mild-mannered Gareth Fowler (HA!) ponies up the dough for an Earth-Scrambler Mk. Nice explanation ;)
For the drawing itself, I can't figure out whats going on. How it should work or how big it is. If a drawing needs some explanation first to figure out what the thing is supposed to do or how it should work, then that is not a good thing right? ;)
With industrial design its very important to have a nice linequality, so I suggest to work on that as it will also improve your other work.
I fill a page with just lines everyday and now I can draw pretty straight lines if I have to.
good luck
