Great stuff, as usual.
Definitely give us the technical lowdown on your hardware Android.
I had a G3 power book but found it lagged a bit in Painter. I'm looking to upgrade. Any suggestions anybody? There was a thread a while ago about the tablet PC. If it works, I would imagine it to be much more practical than hauling around a laptop AND a tablet.

thanks,
as far as my hardware, i am running on a 17 inch mac g4 powerbook
1 gig processor 1 gig ram,
and i use a new platinum 9x12 intous 2 wacom .
and i am using painter 7.
the platinum tablets are pretty identical to the standard intuos 2 tablets but the surface of the tablet has a new texture that adds some more tangiable feedback to the pen, very nice touch.
the 3rd one is my favorite, and for clarification, she is not a hooker, she is a muse of mine, and a very good one i might add.
i was one of those split second impulse paintings, i started to paint is as soon as she said she had to leave to try and capture an anxious moment.

whoa, how interesting.

July 17th, 2003, 11:07 AM
Thanks for the info Android.
That Platinum tablet sounds interesting. Assuming that it's the plastic overlay that has the 'texture', I'm wondering if one could slap that on any tablet.
Is the performance of Painter on the powerbook just as good as on the desktop (assuming you're not dealing with huge files)?

Ive always wondered, what brushes do you use in your portraits? For example in that first one. I know you use some kind of chalky textured for little details, but for the main rendering what brushes do you use?

How on erath could you work with a laptop and a wacom on your lap?!! Do you place the wacom ontop of the keyborad? IM perplexed. Damn cool idea by the way; going out and do life drawins on a fucking laptop, pure genius!
I was had a simalar idea, i could make director movies and talk to hot chicks at the beach at the same time.

20 min huh.....I could of done that in 5 with my eyes closed, wity watta wooddy, j/k.....
One of my teachers used to tell me to squint my eyes and see what I am paintingto see value, so when I see something I like I seem to squint without noticing. I squinted today and saw TIGHT lighting! ...but you know what caught me off guard ? ....the ear.... yes yes I know that it only took you 20 min. but I just thought I would mention it. anywho.....Nice job big pimp'n....

Android,
It looks like your having fun using the flat brush. I like using that, gives you some interesting effects that resemble the flat edge brush used for oil painting. Cool stuff.

That is really awesome. A brave new world is right. It's like instant paint with no hassles or drying times, and unlimited colors. The evolution of the easel. I wonder if the old masters ever wished they could paint on a whim, to capture a moment? All the pieces you show look great. You have a very appealing style. Keep it up and thank you for showing us, it is inspirational.

Do any of you incredible SoCal artists ever get together for anything? I'd love to just go and meet you all and (if yer doin' an art thing) observe or participate. I'm in Irvine.
Keep me in mind if you have a less intimate gathering that you wouldn't mind a stranger showing up to. :)
