Hy there!

I have been always impressed by this kind of textures but I was never able to achieve them.I have made a lot of 3D models (I am a pretty good modeler) , but my models are not going to the public because they are blank , or have at best some low quality textures on them.I had enough of using others textures.I want to create my own from scratch in Photoshop , but I don't know from where to start. All I need is one or two well made and explanative tutorials and I can make my own variations from there.

For example , a few months ago I have found a tutorial about making planets in Photoshop.I have made planets before and mine were pretty good , but that tutorial helped me to achieve a better , more realistic look for my planets. For that kind of tutorial I am looking , when I have posted this message here.

In the image I have attached you can see the types of textures I want to achieve. If you can teach me how I can obtain similar textures from scratch (because those were made from scratch) that will be well very helpfull.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards!

a lot of stock artists I know take photos of mundane things, like cement, sidewalks, bark, things with texture in general and alter them using filters and whatnot to get the sort images you've got there.

Try looking for "Filter Forge" in google, it might help you too.

i suggest taking photos like Tsiamon mentioned. it works best and you can find any kind you like. then from those photos you can begin to mix/alter and replicate to make your own. its not that difficult, dont make it harder than it really is.

also, some nice custom brushes and a few well placed strokes will produce great textures ;) - JAG

yep, nothing better than to explore with yer camera/scanner and try scan simple everyday things and play with them in ps, nothing to do with art/digi media/3d as im sure u know can just be taught off a dvd or tutorial, u need to put time in and explore methods as u go, its important for any designer/artist now to have some ammount of his own stock property....good luck m8!

Try the Adobe exchange on Adobe.com. You can download numerous textures. You can also create a texture from any image in photoshop. Just need to read the tutorials on how to create a custom texture.

Also in your Styles window in photoshop you will find some already made.

also become very skilled at controlling uvw mapping. Cant use a texture if you dont tell it where to go exactly on the model. You can find tons of tutorials. Check out 3dtotal.com they got lots of info and good people in the forums.

Some useful tools when making textures from scratch........ well almost all of what you can find in photoshop can contribute to making cool textures from scratch. Here are a few that I've found most useful.

Filter- Brushstrokes/Spatter
Blur
Select-Color range
Image-Adjustment/Huesaturation/Colorize
Whatever Layer blending mode looks good, or gives an interesting effect, expirement.
