Hey guys,
I'm planning on purchasing a tablet. Preferably, a WACOM Graphire 4x5. Is this good for someone who's just starting with digital art? What do you guys think of its size?
Thanks.

it works great, a really good model to start with.. and if you dicide to buy a better one later, you can use this one to take with you, for model drawing or something.
Small size might take some time to take used to, but really it's not much of a problem.

I don't know what bundled software a Graphire comes with. But if you buy a Intuos, you get Photoshop Elements and Corel Painter Essentials. Both of these are upgradeable to the full versions. So for the price of a Intuos + Upgrade, you can, it's the same as if you paid full price for Painter or Photoshop, and got the tablet for free.
If people do not have Painter or Photoshop, and are thinking of buying them, buy the tablet first. It works out to a great deal.

the graphire isn't a bad place to start, that's where i started in fact, but not too long after i upgraded to the intuos and i'm glad i did.
you might just want to start there, it has so much more to offer, in terms of sensitivity and functionality. and yeah the size might take some getting used to, but it certainly won't be problematic.
to be completely honest though either would be a great choice.

Alright!!! Thanks, guys. THis all sounds really good.
I just have another question regarding the pen's tip/nib. Are they permanent? Or do they need to get replaced in time?

They need replaced.
They are made of plastic though, so unless you press pretty hard when drawing you can expect them to last a good while.
