Here's an image I struggled with that I recently finished--a character concept of mine that I just put in a running pose with a simple backdrop. I wanted to break out of my dark and brooding series of characters and do something with more color and vibrance.

I've realized that I can color and render things fairly easily if the light source is white or blue. As soon as different colors and ambient light from a background are thrown in, I am at a near loss.

Prometheus|ANJ's tutorial on color theory proved invaluable for this image. There are some areas that need work, like my lack of self-cast shadows and just the stiffness of my poses. Critiques and comments most appreciated, doubly so if they're regarding color.

I usually don't reply as I'm not an artist but this time I'll do.

First of all I like the concept of the character, that look of "killer-corporate-9to5worker" :p but as she's running like hell her tie or hair should look more dynamic, just like runnig, the same for the UMP, that pose if you're running is quite hard. The perspective of the drawing is nice but the UMP looks somehow twisted, specially the folding stock.

Anyway, a nice concept with good colors. About the shadows... well, in a corporate building there are lots of omnilights and no spotlights... so the lights are well done anyway.

Yeah... the lineart is very fine. It could be a nice comic.

Good piece you have here, but something about the feet bother me. Perhaps it is the squarness of the boots? Maybe some shading would help round them out so they don't look like cement blocks on her feet.

Otherwise, the hair, which was already mentioned is the other thing. But, the image itself in done well.

Thanks for all the comments and suggetions, guys. I'm such a pillock--I go and draw a somewhat dynamic [for me] pose, and when I draw the clothes, etc, I completely forget the figure is supposed to be running.

I made some changes to the image, making the hair and tie more dynamic, and fixing some perspective issues with the gun. In the original, the magazine well and handle was off, which threw the whole gun out of whack.

Sypha, I'm sorry about the cement block feet, but she just has big feet and square toed boots--it can't be helped. ;)
