Just was wondering if anyone had hints or tips for colored pencils and how to make them seem less grainy on smooth bristol board. I have been pretty happy so far with what I have been able to manage, and the images don't all look that bad, until the scanner gets through with them. But, I was wondering if anyone else has suggestions for colored pencils in the community here?

May I ask why you are using smooth bristol? I think you'd be better off using cold pressed illustration board (rougher surface). Unfortunately graininess is just a quality of such pencils. You might want to try putting down gouche first to block in your colours then go over with the pencils, gouche can give nice solid colours and will help distract from any sketchiness.
