A stupid question..

Can anyone tell me how to study anatomy?

Do I have to know every single muscles and bones and how the muscles are attached to the bones??

Don't you sometimes forget which muscle is attached to which bone?

I'll post some of my drawings soon so that you guys know what level I'm at. (I suck... :()

Get a book on anatomy and study it. Also do figure drawings from life.

altough drawing is essential theres more to it. Study books on it and books made by artist on it like Bridgman and sheppard, if u go to www.doverpublications.com you could find a huge variety of books dirt cheap, people that dont stucdy anatomy, you could really see it it in there work...cuhz it sucks

well i downloaded a figure drawing book off the internet by andrew loomis. You can search for it prolly.. but i stink at anatomy too.. ill prolly post some of my artwork and show ppl how much i suck :D

bobjo: no, you don't need to know every muscle right now. that's the funny thing about anatomy: you start out learning a bit, incorporating it into your work. when you look at a person, you'll also notice what's up in the little bits of anatomy you learned, like, for example, what curve his spinal cord makes.

you continue learning and get more and more of information. your art includes this information and you'll be able to notice the things you learned in a living figure, too.

for starting, i would recommend downloading "figure drawing for all it's worth" by andrew loomis. you can get it at www.fineart.sk
its focus is not so much on accurate anatomy but basics and illustrating these basics.
once you're done with that, you should not cease learning but gradually going more in-depth.
this can (but does not need to) go as far as dropping artists anatomy books completely and go for medical anatomy instead.

in the end, you may be able to call every muscle that forms the body with names but this does not really matter (it's practical for criticizing other peoples work because you can communicate your knowledge better) as long as you know your stuff.
