I'm planning to write a paper discussing Internet art communities for my final art history assignment. I was hoping people could name (or better yet, link) to other major/large online art communities. I want to give a general scope of the progress and magnitude of art on the internet.

My paper will be talking about the new wave of artists exposed to and were inspired to pursue art by exposure on the internet. If anyone has any input, please post, I may even quote you in the report! ;p

http://www.wetcanvas.com/ A large community populated primarily by non-professionals who like to be told how pretty their work looks.

Even if you don't "parlez français", you've got to check Café Salé of Kness & Bengal. (http://www.cfsl.net/?forum=) and the speed painting thread of The Sijun Forums (http://forums.sijun.com/).

JAG, nice... He can now talk about the crowd effect in digital arts communities... You know, the kind of mob effect on the IQ during a riot? That kind of degenerescence when you throw too many smacktards together with a couple of decent people. You only see the overwhelming number of emo doodlers and leave with the impression that it's all a big pile of steaming fanart.
