I've always interested to try a background painting with using digital art. ( I can hardly get the result I want using traditional way..... ) This is my 1st attempt, hope u can give me some comments to help me improve. I'm using photoshop 7 for this.
The idea of this scene is about a housing area near a huge "evil" factory, where the sun has been stolen by the boss of the big factory, to generate energy for his factory and control the city!!! .... anyway.. the story isn't that important.....
Here u go..

A rough sketch I did to bring out the image I had in my mind ( During a boring presentation class......)

no crits yet?
its great, i love the usage of color, very sunsetish,. the best part its really loose, at the same time it has a tightness to it. i'm the last person to draw enviroments, but, ur perspectives seem off, especially the building on the right, its roof top ledge stays the same width even thought its going off into the distance, it actually looks like its getting wider.

:chug:
keep on postin

yeh there is some nice painterly strokes in here and a good approach to the piece.

the perspective is off though as said, most noticable on the pipes. Your tonal value seems strange. Normally your foreground values will be deeper and more saturated than you background values. Your backdrop seems too saturated, and a little too red.

Nice work though has potential

I think it looks great, but i recommend doing more distant objects if is is going to be a BG. Those pipes seem a litle close to me.

Ya, I notice the perspective problem as well.. because I straight away draw in PS, without drawing a outline... I can't even draw a straight line in PS... Thanks for pointing out the few points, they really help alot

dodge: Thanks for poiting out the tonal & saturation problems, I make the foreground's value deeper and more saturated than the backdrop now.

michael: It take me about 6 hours from sketch to final
