First step is getting a Wacom Tablet. 6X9 is probablly the best size for drawing. The one smaller is pretty good too. Anything bigger is a workout. If you've got a tablet start doing the DSG's and ask people for advice. You will learn alot faster by doing then just reading.

Well I'm sorry to desagree but I think that bigger tablet's are aways better... I am using a bigger one now, and i just can't go back to my little one :(
But I think that small tablets are very good if you are learning, and are way way better than the mouse.

If you're at the "I need to learn to draw" stage, getting a tablet is hardly the first step. It's more like the 4,896th step.

1) Sketch Pad at least 8x10. 2) Various pencils (or not). 3) Draw EVERYTHING you see (and everything you dont).

the 6x9 is pretty fine for me, the larger ones are too large and the 6x9 is the most medium size for a tablet.

anyway, not just the practice on the skills but you also have to exercise your creativity too. but before you could apply your ideas properly you need to improve your skill. going to a fine arts school is one of the things that would improve you immensely.
