Hmm! I like this piece, the concept is interesting the painting itself is nice also:

The clouds & far background are one of the best parts of this, although I would be careful about fading out the mountains that much, with such a clear and sunny sky the air wouldn't be so hazy. I'm not completely sure on that point though, so you might want to check that with someone who knows what theyre talking about :P

I think the man in the foreground needs more detail, in his clothes and hair specifically. Also, the perspective on the binoculars looks to be tilted a little too far up, might want to check that. I'm not qualified to comment on the gun so I won't.

The ground in the extreme foreground needs a little work as well, the texture right now repeats too much, enough so that it's noticeable, and the rock is sort of strange looking. It needs less texture and more paint, if you understand me.

The ships in the sky are good, but I think the biggest one could use some more detail on the bottom: think seams, hatches, etc. Also, I'm not sure about the texture you've chosen for the lighter part of the underside. To me it looks like some sort of low-tech 3d water effect, I don't know, it just doesn't read right. :\

Hope that was helpful, and keep it up :)

I made a few changes...added a bit more detail to the ship, worked on the foremost tree line more., changed the gun the guy is carrying and reduced the atmosphere haze. Just thought I would post an update.

the layer with the dude in it has the same values as the part you call the foremost tree line. This blends these two layers together and you loose depth. (resulting in the trees looking really tiny or the dude looking really huge)

separate them! Also I recommend sizing the pic down a bit, its so tall I cant see the entire composition at once without scrolling.
