Here is the start of a new sculpture. Not allot of time spent on it so far, just fleshing out the forms. I am not sure exactly what it is going to turn out to be, Im leaning towards something with big ass claws and an exoskeleton.
At the moment he is a french demon with a Dali mustache... perhaps I will name him Dennis
I wasn’t completely happy with my last SS mixture so I am trying out the Shiflett bros. formula.
Ideas, crits and comments as always, are most welcome

Well I have drastically changed my initial idea. Just disregard the upper shots. I wasn’t happy with my initial concept so I scrapped it and am going with something new.
I looked over at my bookshelf full of action figures and crap like that and thought to my self "what don’t I have..... A lava monster! Of course, no collection is complete without a lava monster." So I am trying to make a lava/magma beast/monster.
I have been meaning to try and see if I can get a sharp, hard edge with SS and I figured it would give me the opportunity. I have also been meaning to try out a new painting and colouration method and a lava monster fits the bill.
The mouth on the last shot is what I am going for. I removed it to do the body sculpt first.
As always crest and comments are welcome.

Cool... I think the design's a lot more interesting with this new concept you're going with :)

Oh yeah!! Now this looks awesome! Love the change in direction you decided to go with.
I'm REALLY diggin' the body so far. My only hesitation is the head. It just doesn't seem to go
with the body. Unless, of course, you were making the teeth look like stalagtites (and
stalagmites, of course). That would be pretty cool. Well, whatever you decide, I definitely
like what you've got going on now 100% better. Great pose, excellent energy, cool lookin'
anatomy. Look forward to more pics. :)

Thanks you very much for you kind comments.
Troyboy you called it man, I'm going for stalagmite and stalactite teeth. The last picture was a very quick sketch just to give a general idea. The final ones will look much better.
Thanks again I hope to get some more progress done some and I will update.

It's looking much better this way, I hope you make him all heavy and with lots of textures, I agree about the teeth looking kind of odd that way, though.

I really wanted to have a quick turnaround with this sculpture but, I seem to have run out of SS and it’s the last week of school and Iv been rather busy.
On top that off I am turning 20 tomorrow. I am depressed because I wont be able to go to Sugar Mountain anymore. Everyone knows you can’t be 20 on Sugar Mountain.
I will be rather intoxicated for the next few days so sculpting would be out of the question.
Critz and comments welcome
Cheers

I really like how he is coming along. I can almost imagine the redish-orange magma in the crevices and cracks. Can't wait to see the final result.

I like where this is going, are you going to keep the fingers long? it would look great with big, thick hands or with a big hand and some sprouting lava on the other

Thanks for the great feedback guys, it is much appreciated.
In regards to the head and hands, for the head I was going to go with stalagmite and stalactite teeth but I am not sure. I want to do something that will differentiate his head from looking too much like fantastic four's The Thing, but I suppose The Thing never spewed lava from his mouth. I don’t know, I will come up with something cool looking.
With the hand I want it to look like it is being ripped apart from the momentum of the beasts swing. It looks a little weird now but I am going to go in with some green stuff and make some streaming lava and chunks off rock coming off.
