Hey, I don't post in the Finally Finished forum very often!

Inspired by this project (http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/01/steampunk_light.html), I recently started a series of pieces redesigning the Star Wars universe with a steampunk theme. These are the first three designs I've done so far. I was planning on getting a few more done before posting them, but what the hell.

101549
Han Solo & Mr. Chewbacca

Han Solo is a notorious gambler, con artist and smuggler. Mr. Chewbacca is his Wookiee partner in crime. The duo is wanted by both the Empire and a number of underworld crime lords, but they manage to stay one step ahead of their pursuers thanks to their ship, the Millennium Falcon, said to be the fastest ship in the galaxy. Solo is also known for his quick draw with a pistol. He boasts that of all the men he's shot, not a single one was able to shoot first.

101551
Lord Vader

More machine than man, Vader is the Empire's most decorated General and a very powerful practitioner of the Force's dark arts. He is obsessed with communicating with the spirits of the dead, spending every sleepless night trying in vain to contact his lost love. Twisted and broken in body and mind, Vader is driven with sadistic passion.

He is a master with the traditional weapon of Force champions, the Phlogisticated Aether Torch, more commonly referred to as the phlogisabre.

101550
Jabba the Hutt

Jabba the Hutt is the ruler of the desert planet Tattooine. Formerly an underworld crime boss, Jabba took the throne in a bloody coup. It's rumoured during the coup he was being supplied weapons by the Empire, but once in power he turned his back on them and continued his illegal activities with far more power and wealth than he could have ever amassed in the underworld.

Jabba is a model of opulence and excess. His corpulence is the physical embodiment of all seven mortal sins. He dresses only in fine Sarlacc silks, regularly partakes in feasts of rare and endangered animals such as the giant Krayt Dragon, and has a harem of concubines representing every humanoid species known in the galaxy.

Hope you like! There should be more to come.

Hehe. That's great idea. I also like Lord Vader redesign. Small spike on the helmet and he's already in different setting :).

Neat. Can't wait to see the droids.

Are you planning on vehicles?

I want to love you long time...but 13 seconds is long enough.

These kick my ass. The Vader looks unstable though, like his pose is off. Han Solo and Chewy are the best IMO.

Great Job Okelvin! When did u get this good? I like the Vader design, but he could use a little more cast shadow from his saber on his cape.

very interesting execution. my only issues with the art itself comes with a few slightly unfinished areas. vaders cape, chewbacca's legs, the ground below jabba. yada, yada.

great work, though. the backgrounds on the first two are superb. i'm going to have to say han is my favorite, too.

HA! I love you.
Last one is a bit weak compared to the greatness of the other two. Hard to fit into steampunk I know ...

Thanks for the responses guys!

deliciouspeter: Yeah, I'm planning on doing some vehicles as well. I'm thinking of doing the Death Star next, and I'm definitely looking forward to sinking my teeth into the AT-ATs and stuff.

jfwalls: I see what you mean about the cast shadow. Thanks!

asoir: Oh man, you're not kidding. I'm flabbergasted at the response this has gotten. I was just posted on freakin' Boingboing! My blog's traffic went from 4 visitors on Wednesday to 8,000 yesterday to 30,000 so far today.

Idiot Apathy: Thanks man! I agree about Jabba. I was planning on adding a lot more to the scene, but I eventually got tired with it and had to call it 'good enough'. I may revisit it sometime.

these are sweet, and you're top 10 on Digg to boot!

I think Darth looks a little too cooky, the cocked head keeps him from looking as menacing as he should.
