didnt want to go searching for the thread that answers this so...
I've got my scanned pencil drawing and I want to change it into a painting.
I dont really want to put a multiply layer over it cause then the lines still show through.
Should I just do a loose tablet drawing over my pencils on another layer and then paint on that?
Or change the color of my pencils with the variations so they dont stand out so much?
Theres gotta be a better way than simply painting over my pencils on a normal layer right?
ok.
thanks in advance.

there are many ways to paint over your drawing in photoshop.. just depends on how youprefer to work. there are also a few ways to change your lines to make it easier to paint.. just gotta find one that you like.

for example: when i scan a drawing, i adjust the line weight and contrast to not make it seem like pencil lines. then i creat a paint layer UNDERNEATH the pencil lines. i use this to block in my general colors and lighting. once done, i copy that layer OVER the lines then adjust the opacity and colors to my liking. i then use a new layer over all of it to conceal my lines with highlites and other details... finally i erase the lined drawing completely.

this, of course, depends on how you work and what you're trying to accomplish.. but like i said its only one way to do things, and its my preferred way. - JAG

thanks jag. actually i just knuckled down and forced myself to figure out a method. i did the same process you did except for erasing my pencil lines. on the paintover top layer i just slowly built my values in the proper places and eventually the pencils vanished.
