View Full Version : Is it possible to load new brushes without replacing the current set?

I'd like to experiment with some free brush libraries that came with my Painter IX Wow! Book, as well as some that are sometimes included on the ImagineFX DVD. What I find annoying, though, is that every time I load one of the libraries, I can only use it exclusively, and I can't access any of the others (including the ones shipped with Painter). I'd like it to be available, side by side with the original set. Is this at all possible, like with Photoshop? Or am I stuck manually loading each set?
Also, how do you save a custom library? I know in Photoshop, you just choose "Save Set" from the preset manager, and it saves your custom set as a .abr file. What's the process like in Painter?

No, we can only load one brush library at a time.
The solution is to use Custom Palettes and drag a brush category icon from each brush library into your Custom Palette. Then, with a single click on an icon, its brush library is automatically loaded.
To learn how to create and use Custom Palettes in Painter IX/IX.5, read the following:
Painter IX Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > A Workspace Tour
On the right panel, click the link named "Custom Palettes" and read the page that displays next.
To learn how to create and use Custom Palettes in Painter X, read the following:
Painter X Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > A Workspace Tour
Click the plus sign to the left of A Workspace Tour, then click Custom Palettes. On the right panel, read the page that displays next.

make a new brushes folder in the painter directory. copy any brushes and associated files into your new folder (jpeg too). and you have your own custom brush library.

Jason,
:D Are you going to explain what the associated (necessary) files are and where they're located, then explain exactly where they need to be placed?
My (typing) fingers are threatening to go on strike after all the hours and hours I've spent with new, and not so new users explaining all that and then helping them unscramble the mess they get themselves into even after it's been explained.
It's very confusing for a lot of people.
Maybe we'll all get lucky this time.

um sure but not if he wants to go into changing or editing current brushes. thats where it can get really confusing. if all he wants is his own "mostly used" categories then id be glad to explain. he could then add those extra brushes into this library without changing painters default brushes.
