Its interesting how rough and sketchy it is. Maybe you cleaning up some of the lines around the shirt would make it look better(top right). Then again, I don't know.

Nice start Don. Try some black and white studies instead of color ones. It will help you in the quest of finding a good value for your image. As usual, go for the basics: study from real life. One question how long did you take in making each image?
greetings!

I don't wanna sound like an upstart, and this is like the first opinion I'm giving in hopes that, you know, what goes around comes around and others will give me too lol.
I'm ahhh...not sure about this, maybe you're trying something different that I don't know about, and I'm not reeeal confident of myself, probably I'm spouting rubbish, but I think the woman's proportion's slightly off. At first I thought, might be perspective, but am not sure. Anyway, I'm just gonna put up a small piccy on what I think is right. I think also the shoulders are too broad somehow, compared to the butt. If I'm wrong I hope people will let me know too. It'll be a learning experience for me as well.
I don't really know what to say about the rest, because I haven't moved into faces yet. Sorry : /

Yeah guys, thanks for the (kind) words... i never had 3 replys to one post, so this is like a little succes for me...
artistic engineer: Thx for the reply, with top right i just wanted to get used to heads, and i was content with it, but thought it would not be worth spending much more time on it...
GringoLoco: i wanted to do so anyway, and yeah, i did, as you can see... the times of the older ones i forgot but today it took me 11mins for step 1, 10more to step 2 and then about 15 more minutes to he 3rd step... Had to stop here for sports, but i like this piece... looks good to me...
Yeah proportion is off, but the arm seems to be shorter because of the perspective... I didn't finish it, but put it in the sketchbook because it was much better than my older things...
C&C wanted as always...

Awesome, good start! Definitely agree with doing alot of life observation and master studies. Do you have any anatomy books around/ a library for access tot them? If so, grab one and plow your was through it. It'll definitely help you understand forms, shapes, and what you are drawing better.
Like your camera - shows a decent grasp of value. It's also a shiney object, which is tricky. Looking at step one of it, try not to make your lines so sketchy. Draw the line that you need, if it's wrong, then fix it. Try to use as few lines as possible.
Keep up the good work.

The camera sketch is coming along nicely, once the lines have been sharpened up it'll look pretty good.
Work a bit more on those anatomy skills and you'll be well on your way!

practiced some perspective, and im happy with the rsult but it took me a damn lot of time... maybe about 2 hours from pencil sketching to what you see now... Can someone tell me wether this is lot to much, or worth it!? Comments? Probably goin on with this piece sometime...
Bluefruitbowl: Thanks, man... no anatomy books around, but tryin to get some...
SideshowBob: yeah, we talked about learning techniques, right ;) ?
MrHobo, Chermilla: Yeah, thanks, guys...

yes man, it's looking good, and I'm glad you took my advice seriously! and doing sports is a good enough excuse for me :) more people here should take importance of their physical development, as well as their artistic (which is a good combo). About the time, don't worry too much about. In the beginning it always takes alot, but the more you make studies, you'll note that each drawing becomes quicker to do, and better. All the time you take in drawing and doing your art is worth it, believe me. The building test is quite interesting, because it looks like it challenged you a bit. Keep it up!

nice do more of those still lifes, now spend longer on them, spend 3 four or 5hours on them, youl get some interesting results it should teach you alot.

those still lives look really nice. The face on your first post has some flaws though. Look up andrew loomis on google and see if you can download one of his books. They're one of the bibles all artists should know about in my opinion.

To post something before going to bed, i have these two, which were not very satisfying for me... the lamborghini is the last think i worked on, but its 2:48am, so tomorrow is another day...
The second piece are simpel practices from one loomis-book. but it showed, that ive problems drawing a ellipse in perspective.
Red Rook: yeah, will do so, as soon as I get some sleep...
Art Zealot: Thanks, and already got loomis ;)...
Grim reaper: At the moment my motivation seems unbreakable, hehe...

went in the forest today to notice once again how hard it is to sketch the nature. i think it wouldn't be even worth posting :blah: but nevermind... shows my level too... and some more tries on poses...

March 7th, 2007, 04:43 PM
Yeah, had a little chat with sideshowBob (thanks man) and he showed me some thinks about poses, perspective and dynamics on these... yeha. i believe to se an improvement, he mostly does not.. i did more of sketches like this... deleted most of them... but these as a little impression (all of them were kinda fast)...

March 10th, 2007, 08:55 AM
take more time ! dont rush !
keep em 3D not flat
make sure u understand the segments of courve and how they flow in 3D space seperate -> x y z segments
try understand how to allign LINES first then move to angles and courves and complex shapes
try understand it step by step or its getting messy pretty quick

Your motivation astounds me! You're getting better - check out the comparison of the figure studies from post 21 and 29. Keep it up! My $.02 is to step back from working with value in life drawings and really get contour drawings down pat. Those hands you drew are really nice.
