Chief Librarian of the Lost Sea Scrolls
Hey man - here's my topic idea
"Chief Librarian of the Lost Sea Scrolls
The Chief Librarian was once a lord of Atlantis. Foreseeing the citys demise he gathered the most sacred and powerful texts and took them to a place where no mortal could find them. He now lives in solitude, the sole guardian of the secrets that allow one to control the most powerful forces in the oceans. "
Now... concept!

Well i'll try to make this one, even if I am not certain I can pull it in time...
EDIT : here is my take on the subject :
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/853/belucielchow61wf1.jpg
The concept :
Atlantean chief librarians were exclusively selected among the clown fish hybrid, for only them were able to manipulate the precious scroll made out of jellyfish hide without hurting themselves. When Atlantis fell, the long lived hybrids saved the vast majority of the scroll, and pleged to protect them until the day when Atlantis shall rise again. Today, they live in isolation, dispatched among the vast sandy sea plains, storing the scrolls at the heart of venimous sea anemone, which also provide them their characteristic mantles.
EDIT2: Following Dragon4lunch remark, I am compelled to precise that the red coral is fire coral, a highly venimous polyp. As such, it is more a potential weapon than a cane.

Graphuji and Cakeypigdog those are some nice thumbnails! Good start people, good start!
Beluciel: Hehe, I like the idea of this jelly-like coat he/she/it is wearing! Certainly quite a bit different from what I was thinking in terms of the topic - but hey, a fish creature would certainly qualify, as long as you dress it :)
The cane is funny, because it would be completly useless, if he is floating and swimming anyway.

March 1st, 2007, 05:54 AM
Many thanks Dragon4lunch.
I asked myself what would be the easiest way to put the scrolls out of mortal reach and storing them inside deadly animals was my best guess.
Of course, thoses scrolls would have to be water proof, so I made them of jellyfish hide, and before you know it, deadly animals+jellyfish just add to clown-fish hybrid. The coat was a logical step then.
As for the cane, I didn't precise it, but one may assume it's made of fire coral, yet another kind of highly venomous polyp, and serve more as a potential weapon than a support. That and yes, I couldn't see my librarian priest without a handy support on which to lend, even if he is a fish...
Maybe I should precise the fire coral story in the concept...

Lost for millenia beneath the ocean, the last remaining Atlantan presides over the remnants of a once majestic civilisation. Tirelessly guarding the entirety of their knowledge and technology until the world above the waves is ready to receive it.

Dragon4lunch, cheers mate. How I did this one was to paint over the green monochrome with a mid opacity hue or colour brush to keep a bit of the overall green in everything, and then just pick colours and paint with a normal brush from there. If that makes sense... Glad you like it anyway :)

Every morning she would wake, the last of her kind. Her servants had passed long ago. Every waking morning was a ritual, a remembering.
Every day she would tend to the responsibilities entrusted to her by a forgotten race. Her pets, as she knew them, kept the histories of a thousand years safe, and as she passed by each one, it would gently nudge her, tentatively, respectfully, reminding her that they knew, and remembered.
Every night she would slip into her bed. The folds of sleep would press softly against her, and she would pass from one day to the next. Her life would never end.
In the morning she would wake...

mc2mc2: I like the transition into octopus, not that it hasn't been done before, but it is the first time I can recall seeing a sharpe edge on the tentacles, rather than all round (don't know if you understand what I mean here).
I do think you should have cropped it differently. The tentacles need more room! I'd have increase the size of the image on the left side and rendered those tentacles better!

Crap. I never read that this was a guy. I was wondering why this place was turning into a sausage fest... dammit.
I'm assuming gender relocation probably wasn't Atlantean in origin and I'm gonna have to change up?
Oh and D-Baker, as you already know, that is completely fantastic. In every way. The sheen coming off the "shell" makes this image. Not to mention the character perfection. Nicely done.

Hey guys, some sweet entries again. Anyways, I was starting with a old miser type scribe, but I always think my stuff is too 'safe' and it kinda pisses me off at myself. So I ditched that idea and thought about it, we have this guy who was a Lord of Atlantis, who saw the end coming, perhaps no-one beleived him, called him a deluded doomsayer, so he gathered the scrolls and secreted himself and the scrolls away for enternity. The long, bitter solitude has twisted him into a madman, frightened of every shadow, every noise and the anger has made him visicious. so on and so forth...

Anyways, heres a wip to see where I am heading, I thought I take a chance as its an exercise and thats the point, right?
Soorry! Down to the wire again, morale of the story dont change ideas mid term! Pretty rushed not happy with the hands or the pose now Ive finished d'oh oh well, in the hands of the judges!
