The way things work is you post stuff, people give crits or props (usually they commend and give props on your work). I personally keep my sketchbook to track my progression over time. But yeah, i just bookmark my sketchbook, and keep postin stuff on it every few days i think thats how everyone does it.
Anyway though, i'm not sure if you really needed such a detailed explanation of how it all works. Your stuff is really great. It's kind of hard to critique it, i guess on that profile i sort of wish the ear were rendered out just a little bit, but it still really works well as is. keep postin.

For me it works like this - I draw/paint, and then when I have some time over from that, or something else, I visit some other SB's - for inspiration, and to give some support (this also helps my SB, as more people will visit etc). I usually don't say anything unless it's supportive; an asspat, tips or useful (hopefully) critique ~ usually I'll start with the props, and then work myself down that short list, with actual critique being rare.
Then from time to time I dump some sketches in my own SB, and answer the posts prior to my last dump.
& ArtZealot wrote it's have much to do with keeping track of my progress, and for me at least it helps to see how many people actually cares about my latest dump, as I'm rather blind to my own progression.
Anyway that said - you have a good start to your SB, and I really like your last piece ,(make that post #4, since I'm bloody slow)- especially the colours and style :)
Anyway GL and have just have fun over here (& don't expect loads of people, as the noise from the zillions of SB is bloody awful sometimes).

Hey dude, just replying to the question you left in my sketchbook. As for how i start my environments, i sometimes start with a thumbnail, sometimes a photo. Recently i've been finding that thumbnails are the best way to go.\
If you're having trouble getting into actually coming up with what do draw when you draw an environment, i started out going to Corbis.com or some other photo dump site and drawing pictures i grab off of there. that method really helped build up a library of environment-ish stuff to draw. If you are as good as you are at drawing figures, i'm sure you will totally kick ass at environments once you get the hang of them.
Also, you might want to add a link to your sketchbook in your name. If you need to know how just let me know. U gotta do it from the "user CP" in the list of options at the top of the thread. Keep it up.

So I guess your saying that you don't care for Andy Warhols' Oxidation series? I understand your distate for pompous schmucks who put elephant shit on a painting of the virgin mary, or photograph a bullwhip in a mans ass and call it art. But the Oxidation paintings are actually very beautiful, and in my opinion are less about pissing than chemical reaction, if you can stand the pain you should check it out.

some real good work here mister, regarding your question I simply copy my line layer and change the layer option to multiply and this does the job most of the time you will need to either play with the levels or I tend to repeat the process if I need a heavier line.
Keep up the good work and take it easy
Ashab
April 12th, 2007, 03:46 AM
easy there mister I don't know if i am the best person to ask about this, I tend to fill my brain with as much information as I can and I do this almost all of the time. I don't think it is a good idea to directly use ref as this seems to stifle my thoughts and I believe you must trust in your gained knowledge and artistic abilty to use what you have in your minds eye to create what you want.
It is important to me in the case of armour for example to understand how and why it is made and by this I mean the functionality of the objects.
This way how ever exagerated your designs become they feel right because they are founded on functional knowledge.
I hope this is of some help and as I said earlier this is my take on it and it is important that you find your way.
Take it easy

Hey there. It's good your practicing the imaginative stuff. Some of the figures could use better proportions to enhance it's believability. I know there are some sketches which have obvious tweaking of porportions purposefully but you should try and sketch some with realistic proportions. It can only help : )
Good stuff other wise. I like the line work the best. Keep it up broski!

Realy really nice selfportraits! My favourite is the one in post #9, great coloring, aslmost looks like it's made in ps or wth oils. But it isn't, right?
The one where you're peeing is cool too, I agree about all teh so called "art" that exist nowadays. I don't want to be called uhm, "konstnär" (swedish for artsman or artist, but in english I like the word more) because it's got such a bad meaning here. At least for me.

Hey dude, just wanted to apologise for not getting back to you about that icon issue. I recently got my first job as a concept artist and have been working there 40 hours a week and never get to check conceptart anymore, or reply. It looks like you got the icon issue working, but if not you just have to edit your first post and upload a picture and it will automatically make that your icon.
I like what you've been posting recently, i like that one that you said you did for a friend, the colored version of some dude holding a decapitated guys head, it has a really nice realistic feel to it, I think the best part about it is how the lighting is reacting with the guys skin. Superb work. anyway, sorry again about not getting back to ya, keep on truckin

Yeah i dunno what's up with your icon now. I did see it before. Mine also is not working, so i'm guessing it's a problem with the server. Yeah i got a temp job at SOE as an environment concept artist. I've been busy as hell with that lately, working 40hrs a week, but it's super tight. They give me a lot of freedom in terms of what i my concepts can look like, and i've been learning a lot just getting feedback from co-workers and my supervisor. So far, honestly, i have no complaints about it, it's everything i thought it was going to be, it's a lot of fun. Anyway, keep postin, u'r stuff is looking tight. later.

yo, I guess I just started drawing here and there. I picked it up again the last year of highschool. then went college and quit then too, to pursue 3D work, and decided I wanted to draw again soooo... to answer the question about three years of intense studying, but I'm still going there's so much to cover I've just hit the beginning. The anatomy stuff I never really reference, I try to remember the origins and insertions and go from there. I really should though reference stuff, but for some reason I just don't like it.
Anywho, how'd you that first image with the two people in the room with the cats?
