[ So... ]

[ Think of forest-animal-riding gnomes as the peanut-butter... ]

[ ...and tech-enhancement loving cyber-punks as the chocolate. ]

[ The goal: a conceptual aesthetic equivalent to the Reese's® Peanut-Butter Cup as experienced when one was really young and the super-sugared taste was not as gut-wrenchingly obscene as it is now. ]

[ Or some similarly roughly appropriate simile as thusly occurs to one. ]

45 minutes on the sketch and another 45 minutes in photoshop with the evironment. Had fun with this one. It's begging to be colored. I may come back later and do that.

Decided to put up what I had so far. Doesn't look all that uhh, 'tech-enhanced' unless u can see the satelite dish on his head (Dark Tower anyone?)

Thanks Jack. Yours is funny -and very wtf. I thought of a moose myself but settled on the wolf. :) very entertaining.

Hamsta, love the action and perspective on yours -thought of doing a similar perspective but settled on the easy side angle -and ended with only one gnome/animal. I really like yours.

Ccrest - wow very dynamic, I like the design. Too bad that the foreground elements are not shaded

Jack Frost - I really like your moose design, I kinda wish that you would do something with the background though

Tigermoth - I like the concept and the little gnome, although I feel that I need some more indication on scale and maybe some foreground/background elements. Good job nevertheless

Machzero - wow I like the atmosphere you created, and the elf/punk guy is pretty cool.
I think from this point it needs more detailing to become a more finished piece and go beyond a sketch (that would not be a DSG anymore though)

Coco - cool bear, wow you probably spent a while drawing that head…impressive
It seems that something weird is happening in the background though either its not defined enough either its off in the perspective sense

Hamsta - Yea man, I think its one of your better ones, I really dig the movement of the foreground bear. I think that the rider needs more definition though (right now he looks like a green blob with a hat). I think the next thing would be is just more details and maybe something in the foreground… :)

I was inspired by dan's workflow of doing thumbnails and the going to a more finished look, but I kinda screwed myself over because I started detailing the first thumbnail I drew and its ended up being this thing. Maybe next time...
overall 30 min in photoshop

This is a quick one for me...less than an hour. I actually didn't mean to DO this one. I just didn't have any good ideas, I couldn't decide what animal to do. Yet, I started sketching while watching the Oscars and this came out. Figured I would share. :-P http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs14/i/2007/056/c/1/Cyber_Gnome_by_rogue_rogzilla.jpg

Rogzilla, Nice.

I like the overall look of the Gnome's face -and the mechanical hat too. lol

Are those dreads comming out the back of his head? :D

Haha! Yeah, when I decided to go ahead with the cyberpunk thing I wanted to make it a bit more "low life"...so I thought "Hey, what is more low life pathetic than a white guy with dreadlocks?!" :-P Might as well wear a big sign "I SMOKE WEED"

I debated whether or not to even post this one. While I like the Gnome, you can tell I struggled with the "tech-enhanced rabbit". I probably should have shown folds of skin around the pnuematic leg, hell, even the trees and mushroom were a sloppy afterthought. I guess it is the DSG (Daily Sketch Group) and not the finished masterpiece group right? So here it is.

I know, right?

Yay! Thanks for some constructive feedback VadiQ!

When I get some time maybe I'll add more to my background...

VadiQ I love the format and spindly legs on your deer.

Lawndart - I know I don't have time to do a finished masterpiece every day for DSG... what you have is good. I like the interesting vents(?) in your rabbit ears, and built in saddle. Only thing I would have done is made your rabbit mech-leg look a little more incorporated as part of his leg; maybe add wisps of fur hanging over the edge? I'm no master yet, just an opinion. ^^

Cheers

VadiQ I like this, the looseness and the textures made from overlapping opacities. Nice how the focus is on the gnome's face. Like the lance.
The deer doesn't look like it's mechanically enhanced, and those legs just make the thing longer than my screen can fit.
The figure could also use some "gnoming" it looks like an adolescent right now.

CCrest Sleek looking animal. I like the gnome too, especially the head. You could use some thicker lines to make things really pop out, and maybe a little less of that noise in the dirt/trees.

Jack Frost Cute, I like the huge cable sticking in the gnome's back, and the moose's expression. The white bg is a bit glaring and empty, and the tailpipe bothers me... so cruel :x

Tigermoth - Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, after working on it for a bit I started to see where it was falling apart. I just decided to tread it like a first sketch, and worry about details later. I do think this is one I'll revisit later, might make an interesting submission for a childrens book...
