Here's a new page I am working on. It is a little out of context, but you get the drift.

beautiful compositional choices, and strong color rendering. the characters poses seem very lifelike and emotion. Almost like life drawing studies. great stuff :) I also like your method of having little color thumbnails to work from...

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of the wonderful comments. One comment I am particularly happy about is that my characters express clear emotions. That is the one issue I have with this site that I can't stand. For the most part, most of the character designs I see for this site are purely about the visual aspects. That is NOT what character designs are all about. You have to design and explore HOW THESE PEOPLE BEHAVE. Making some awesome technical illustration of some soldier in a future world is not really designing. You have to "get into" the story. . .and explore the possibilities of this world. Renderings are just the tip of the iceburg. LIFE IS ABOUT PEOPLE. People do not posture. They have feelings and a way of carrying themselves. How they dress, their design, their house, are all reflections of their personality.
Also, I have another comment (not to get on a rant). While the technique of creating a photo collage and painting over it in photoshop is a very effective and fast method of creating an environment, It can be VERY DANGEROUS. Dangerous because you don't REALLY understand what it is you're designing. What happens is someone says "this looks great, but I wish you could change the angle 45 degree?" or "What's going on over here or here? Then you are totaly stuck because you are a SLAVE TO YOUR PHOTO REFERENCE and don't truely understand how to create isometric views of your world. Photo reference is something you REFER to for inspiration not a blueprint. This method of creating a space model in Maya and then painting over it, however, seems like a very interesting way to design. Wish I could learn more about it.
Sorry for the rant. . .I am a butthead and don't really have the right to lecture
