I was wondering to day about how you guys and gals go about honeing your skills. ATM I am trying to learn how to draw the human figure.

WOuld you guys concentrate on the human head for a full day and then move on to the body the day after or just practise on what you want to when you want to?

Just need a few tips cause I am having a little trouble. I know practise is the answer but im sure theres a few lil tips to help me along.

Thanks Luke

there are many proponents of many ways around most reccommend working your way through some book
Bridgeman, loomis, Hogarth.

I do what I like when I like.. and Iprogress slowly..very slowly.. for faster accomplishment. and more methodical approach would probably work better

I started with drawing the whole thing as opposed to studying each part and putting it all together in the end. But it doesn't matter how you go about it. I do recommend studying the proportions of the human figure until you develop a sense for it. Try looking for information on the 8 heads proportional model for the human figure. It is regarded as the standard measurement.

I'd go for a structural approach - learn the skeletal structure, then musculature, then work at putting everything together from memory, draw dynamic poses from imagination, lots of life-model drawing, lots of gestures. Accurate proportional relationships will develop on their own given practice, I think.

Atlantis spoke the truth. also the only way to practice is by doing..think of it as a soccer player..you think is easy to kick a ball and dominate that beautifully it took him years..if not all his life..everyday , everynight, everytime, everychance he got..if you take things very seriously and get a love for it , It will feel like playing and it will cease to be practice..just lots and lots of fun..just like when you were a kid when you drew..you just drew for the hell of it..not for practicing under any given time..it was your love for it. NObody had to tell you what to do..not even your DAd or even me for this matter :)
