anyone been keeping up with this one?

yearzero.nin.com

there's a slew of tie-in sites as well, i'm really digging the viral marketing that is the promotion for this album.

3 of the songs have already "leaked": My Violent Heart, Survivalism, and Me, I'm Not. The former two are on their myspace (www.myspace.com/nin)

just curious to what you guys think. i dig the new sound, been a fan for years and i can't wait.

Always been a big fan of NIN (Trent Reznor) since Pretty Hate Machine, but just haven't liked them as much since The Downward Spiral. That's one of the best albums ever, and even though the new stuff is good, they'll probably never do anything as groundbreaking. Much like Marilyn Manson and Antichrist Superstar.

Looking forward to it, been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine.

I was pretty hacked off when all their tour dates near me sold out in about 3 nanoseconds..:/

NIN has put the whole album, streamable on http://yearzero.nin.com/

I am verily picking this up. Sounds as different from previous NIN as any given NIN album from the rest, but I detect hints of pretty hate machine, the fragile and with teeth. It's harsh. There are distinct hip-hop influences but it's pretty damn cool.

And make sure you check out the rather massive amount of related material (the alternate reality sites and all) at symphony of noise

I've given it a few listens now and I think I like it, it's certainly way better than "With Teeth".

It's very much electronica, I kept expecting it to break into overdriven guitar freakouts ala "Wish", "Last", "Mr Self Destruct", never does. That's probably a good thing.

i love how much more you can appreciate the lyrics, if you've followed the ARG.

my interpretation thus far:

Meet your master- detension inspection interrogation by the US Bureu of Morality

The Greater Good- the US's policy of policing 'everything you know, everywhere you go, anything we want... anything' and perhaps their justification of their various 'endeavors' around the world

The Great Destroyer: especially creepy if you watch the video on RedHorseVector.net. 'I hope they cannot see the limitless potential living inside of me to murder everything'

there's a phone number you can call that tells a chilling story of a girl trapped in a closet in the 'star chamber' as a man infected with the RH virus basically shows up, bleeding through his skin, absolutely fucked out of his mind with rage, killing people with a knife ...

meh. if you've been keeping up with the ARG, gone to the listening parties, etc, then this stuff is really exciting. if not, well, enjoy the music at face value and don't bother looking any deeper. Oh and Fallout Boy is releasing a new album soon. just thought you'd be interested. : )

i drove to Chicago for a chance to hear this album early. it was SO worth it.

I was aware of the whole ARG thing but I deliberately avoided it all until I'd heard the record, I wanted to see if the album worked for me just as a collection of songs.

Spent a large chunk of today catching up on it all and I'd agree, it's pretty cool stuff.
