This is "Electron Phantasm o1"... It's one of those stop'n'start pieces that's currently stop. Looking for general reaction/feedback and hoping to get it started again. No particular point that's causing me pain... well... except maybe what the hell to do with the abdomen.

I freakin love this. It's like its in it's larvae stage. I'm assuming that the eye(s) are the big red thing in the left. Which looks great btw. Plus I dont know it it's cut in half? Or if its just part of its body. Whatever it is I love it!
Seriously, I do!:hearts:

Holy crap! I, being a big alien/monster freak, am seriously diggin this design, I love the colors and the transparent skin. The bony insect limbs contrast with the bulbous fleshy masses is very cool as well. I would comment on the tail, but as this is in the WIP section I made the logocal conclusion that you just haven't finished it. This is seriously great. Now this is concept art.

this is great, i would finish this up.
the head and arms look really done, i like some of the incomplete areas in the painting.
i think you should add more to your canvas on the bottom and finish its curving tail/lower torso for a spiralesque composition. i think it would complete the peice to finsih drawing the rest of the body.
its like writing half of a word on a page.

I.was.ink - Well, those are very kind words! You are correct about the eyes -- I may go back into those later, as I'm not completely convinced about the colouring... As for the area where you were unsure how to interpret it,(I know it's a little awkward to have done it that way... confusing) it's supposed to just be part of its body. I may alter that a little, actually.
Exo - Thank you, fellow big alien/monster freak! This is my first bonafide attempt at doing the transparent fleshy stuff, and I'm pretty happy with it. This image should be a "gateway" piece to more complex transparent fleshy alien/monsters, so keep an eye out!:D Your conclusion about the w.i.p status and its ramifications for the abdomen/tail was exactly right. As for a website... well, I'm working on that. My plan is to have a site up-and-running by mid-August, so check my 'signature' in a few weeks!
sepulveda - Thanks!
killing.people - I feel you're right that I shouldn't leave the creature chopped off the page, and I share your thoughts about spiralling the tail beneath it(I may still do that...). However, this update shows a bit more flamboyant direction that I'm trying out.
So, have I completely lost my marbles here? What do you folks think about this? Keep in mind that it's still rather sketchy.
Thanks again for your feedback, everybody!

This is NOT movin' along very smoothly I'm afraid, but any thoughts/constructive criticism on the direction that I've been going are more than welcome.
I suppose my main concern is that I'm losing sight of coherent/believable structure. Yah? Nah? Is this turning into a goofy smorgasborg of a larvae, an explosion of unidentifiable noodly bits, or am I blowing it out of proportion?

This is sweet! I really like the fish fin looking things that you've added. As far your concern about making it a "smorgasborg of a larvae" I don't think you should worry too much, maybe the the big venus flytrap looking thing (middle top) is a bit big, but I'm not even sure that's true. And I assume you're going to add the reds that are found on the front of the creature to the tail end?
Anyway, great work.

I liked the first one, not a huge fan of all the fins. More spine less fins maybe? It looks too chaotic towards the rear of the creature.
Also, the front head part could maybe use a little backlighting to sharpen the profile. Just a thin line, from the mouth area all along the hood to the neck.

I agree with Groover McNab on this'n. I LOVE this piece and I think it would be *mwah* perfecto!!!-if the red trailed to the end (or close to it) It would help tie the whole image together. Right now it is beautiful but disjointed.... the red would unify it.

Ahhhh yes unity. Just like stalcracker mentioned. Give him more red, and you're set.
This piece is the sh*t!

Thanks for all your replies, guys!
Groover/stalecracker/I.was.ink - you're right about the red, of course, and that'll show up after I get the form worked out.
Groover - That's funny, it really does have a venus flytrap look to it, huh? I'm inclined to significantly alter that area. As much as I like the particulars, it's really seeming out of place to me now.
Porkasaurus - I might well do as you suggest concerning a little backlighting on the head, that's a good point that I'll have to come back to when the butt is finished. More spines, less fish... yup.
strych9ine/tegehel - Wow, I disrupted control of bodily functions? You flatter me!
:chug: I'll update soon-ish.
