that's a slick painting...very calm feeling to it.
one thing that I can think of...compositionally, if you had the foreground's shadows relate to the converging bridges and the shape it creates, it might be interesting... but the more I look at this, the more I like the mood it puts me in. color choices are supernice. glad you're posting again.

I love how some areas look like watercolor ( like the shadows of the pillars, and the blue piller on the right) way cool... but then when you see the close up you can see the strokes.. love it man...

nice painting?.....why did you paint that scene...was there something in it that made you paint it? Is there any symbolic intellectualism?....other than the literal?

yeh, teh colors shapes compo everything....!
Do you sell your paintings? I've seen so many bad images in galleries near me for prices like 3000$, I'm sure that people would pay more for yours.
(edit: and I know that painting is not about money, but its a nice thing when you have fun and get some bucks, right?)

No ref, uh? Really nice! I think I can spot a few problems with lighting, but a damn nice piece. I love huge concrete overpasses and such... the size, weight and feel of it all, ... nice stuff! Makes me want to try traditional paints...

that thing has a name: ART !
You have your very own sensibility, the color scheme is wonderful. If one day you wanna showcase in France, you just tell me :D

thank you everyone for your kind replies.
living rope: haha! thnks a lot man. i'm so glad to be getting love from you french guys , because the talent pool is sooo strong over there, i'm suprised you even take notice of my crappy paintings! i'd love to showcase over there:) one of these days....
remedial: thanks, man
loga4:gracias, amigo!
dodowa: thank you, it means a lot coming from an artist as talented as yourself.
frost: haha! naw, i used ref. but i try to use it as loosely as possible, and lately i'm really trying to interpret and suggest what i see, instead of duplicating it. i'd love to see what you'd do with traditional paints, its a dying art, we need you!
jnorish::chug:
cucaracha: yes, i sel these whenever i get the chance. the difficult thing with that is trying to find a reliable venue to exhibit the stuff. galleries' general rule dont like to touch artists that don't have extensive experience in the fine art world, but how one gains such experience when getting snubbed by most galleries is a riddle i havent found the answer for yet. but anyway, like you said, its not about the money, as i'd paint even if i didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of selling anything, because its good clean meditative fun.
shawn ye: i'll try to post more closeups at some point today.
matthew-S: thanks, man
davi: word, yo!
ant4d: thanks, mate!
3bleadpencil : the thing that made me paint the scene were the colors, and the desolate serenity of the scene. i've always been looking for an excuse to paint the freeway here, as i like the color, but i needed to have them in the right context. i guess the mood of the pic made me paint it.
I.was.ink: glad you like it.
mcotie: thanks, dude! glad you like it! i'm trying to use a bit more of an unconventional pallete as of late. i really like the work you've been producing lately as well, man!
deth jester: thanks, i'm a big fan of the wet in wet painting, which produces really soft modeled blends like water color. the true power of oils is when you balance those areas out with impasted and scumbled drybrush techniques, it really is a myriad of visual tools, more filters that photoshop!
cotron: thanks. i thought about rearranging the shadow somemore, but i got too caught up in the shapes...good to be back, my friend.
andrew: lalalalala!!!

I saw the overhead freeway and I though SF, but the more I looked I saw the wonderful colors you used, and it's definitly your unique interpretation on this scene. Amazingly interesting painting.

El Coro,
Gotta add to the praise, I'm afraid.
It's so very SF: I'm sitting here trying to think which overpass that is...feels like the lot on Townsend, maybe Division... :p The colors also read as temperature, which also is very SF (hot in the sun, freezing in the shade, hehe).
Color usage is very astute, and bold as all get-out. The varying levels of abstraction are very effective (e.g., the detail-free left pylons and blue ground shadows), while you still detailed the truck, the bird, and the traffic cone.
For this great piece of work, you gets da pimp!
:Pimp:
Ciao,

Elcoro,
I'm a picky bastard as to what I like but you know I like most of your work if not all of it from your Dj/graffiti art to your sketchbook stuff and this is no exception. Your colors are one of your strength. I also like the fact that you paint everday scenes and find the beauty and subtleties that most of us "illustrators" just take for granted. Also this is not to pull your wanker but your honest love of painting is refreashing, I really look forward to seeing where your talent will take you young man.

That's awesome man. I think it's the colors (especially in the overpass), but for some reason it reminds me of Akira. Wierd.

Tedsuo: haha akira! i love the freeways here, its a bitch what they did to the fell street overpass, as i always wanted to paint it.
Targete: aw,, man thanks. i cant tell you what your support means to me. such positive feedback coming from you is the shit that keeps me painting and gives me hope. i've been a fan of your work since back when i was a starving student, and to actualy get feedback on my paintings from you, well thats just the shit. you are one of the people here that make this board really fucking dope, and dont ever stop postin', cuz i learn loads from you.
Atomick: its 8th and brannan, i think. thanks alot. i really tried to treat this painting as more of anabstraction, and i'm really trying to compose my paintings a bit more, and pay attention to the overall design, as the older i get the more i grow a deeper appreciation toward the great picture composers, like frazetta, pyle, and wyeth, and thier ability to arrange a painting like a symphony, where everyhthing works together to form a harmony... if that makes sense. anyway i appreciate your comments, and especially the pimp:)
facezero: i'd love to see what you could do with oils! its all the same shit, i use the same rules in oil or digital. i still like oils, because i like the feel of real brushes, and the smell of mineral spirits! i encourage you to try.
Boom/ Nerfherder/tegehel/DustinTrimble/Marko Djurdjevic: thank you all for your positive comments. you guys keep me going.-c36

yo coro, this is fresh man! I really dig the style! I just wish that this was hanging over my couch. ;) Seriously, it would look awesome in someones house!! you ought to be proud.
What I like most is the serenity I gather from the empty lot below the freeway. The freeway eludes to travel and speed and ultimately confusion.... but the simplicity of the empty lot below gives me rest. I like it.
