Considering how awesome of a company, in terms of product and atmosphere, Bungie is, I've always been sort of underwhelmed by the concept art that they show.

On a consistent basis, I see better concept art on this forum than what Bungie has ever shown. And I mean 'better' in a sense that includes the level of skill and also in the designs themselves.

Still, Bungie knows how to make the best games.

Uh i completely disagree with you.

first off the first piece is a fantastic envoriment, i don't see one thing wrong with it.

the second piece is a story panal, it quickly shows what needs to be showned in a sequence and i'm sure there are about 40 more of those panels.

and the last one might not be rendered to the best level but it surely shows the concept without dicking around. I'm sure that's not the only drawing of the character either. That could possibley be one of 30 proposed concepts for the character.

there may not be anythign wrong with it, but thers not anything unique about it imo. and arnt there professional concept artist on this board? then it would make sense to have people here of same or better skill, i think.

The last one is strange... it looks kinda photoreal and 'digital art noob' at the same time. I can't make up my mind about it.

thers so many things wrong with it, imo. the hcest area looks wierd, and the leg on the right dosent seem to have a moving joint. And at first i thought the gun was grafted itno his arm, but apperantly hes holding it on the side? :confused:

Well this isnt WIP so i guess criting is kinda pointless. :p

ah, well the concepts I think are fine, but the art direction of the game in general seems to be a bit bland in places... but i think the blandness of it all makes halo work, have you seen the movies? Everything just looks....practical.

Look at pictures of or reality, most everything follows the same general theme, and that's what i see when i look at halos designs. The Soilders aren't suppose to look like super warriors they are suppose to look 'mass-produced'.

I think davi has a very good point, and also, that E3 video was pretty damn cool, and no matter what the concept art looks like, Ill definitely be buying the game lol. So if your doubting the game just based on the art on their site, at least check out the in game video.

And btw, regarding the brute concept...I think his hand is like trapped in some sort of goo on the gun, so that he has to take it with him everywhere, and like..shoot people and stuff..yah know? ;)

What bungie presents as a final product is pretty much the pinnacle of game design. I was just thinking in my head that there's a pretty big jump in quality from the concept art that they present on the site to the final assets they present in a video game.

All the gameplay images I've seen from Halo 2 are incredible. Even Halo manages to floor me with designs like the Warthog. It just seems to me, though, that Bungie's 3d artists are very, very capable of bringing concepts to life. However, most of the 2d concept art posted at the bungie site is pretty lackluster considering how good the games are.

Even as far back as Marathon, I remember flipping through the manual and looking at the artwork, thinking that I could draw better than that. But then the artwork and design in the game was top notch for the time.

Blackhand: I think one of the things we do not see on the boards is that Concept art.... really only needs to be able to convey the correct design to the modeler's and the feel of the game. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece each time. Sure its nice to have those, but its not really practical.

Love that artwork though. And Davi is right too... the Halo/Halo 2 designs have always looked... right for the world.

^^^ I completely agree. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where deadlines do not exist and you can draw/create things to a better level, making nice pretty pictures.
