This is my first digital environment painting. Actually, lets call this my first true painting ever. I've done some studying, but my experience lacks big time. All i know is the values are all the same, the crater walls need to look huge but further away, and everything just seems like a large mess.

There's still more elements to be put in but I cant get my initial lay down correct. The feeling I'm going for is dry, lonely, dangerous, bright, high tech but half assed put together. My influences are the oddworld inhabitants games, and fallout.

I'll give you the first one I had to do in an actual medium, which all I had on me is color pencils and some markers. It's not the complete feeling i'm going for but I did what I could.

I don't like the cutting and pasting you're doing in the bottom image. Go back and work from your original sketch or do a few more sketches

Rethink your background color choices as they are all over the place.

Hey there woodbert thanks for the advice. The cutting and pasting you see is the initial setup, because I'm giving a shot at some matte painting and using maybe a picture or 2 for texture.

Choosing the colors is difficult at the moment, that's what I'm still experimenting with. Only reason I'm not using the whole initial sketch is because way too much of it is off, so I corrected it with the one I'm working on now. Hopefully I can get this the way I want it. My lack of color experience though has put me at a dead end at the moment. I can't seem to get rid of the gray values either, so the peice looks very flat to me. I'm reading up on some articles rightnow about values and color so I should be able to dig out a bit. I'll also try working on a painting straight from the sketch as well like you mentioned, I need the practice.
