i have been working on this piece for the last two days. i'm having fun trying to concentrate on details. have done too many sketches, and i feel i'm becoming lazy doing images, concentrating too much on the first concepts and leaving the rest undone.

Looks like its off to a good start! The main thing i see wrong with it is that it is unfinished.;)

Beautiful...

Q: How do you pick your colors for lighting? For example, the hot sides of those girders underneath the structure are just perfect. Do you draw them first in a medium value and then just amp it up a bit until you see what you like? Or are you just picking the right color off the bat?

I've noticed this sort of thing in Craig Mullins & John Libertos' work too (among others). The values they pick to light things always seems to be spot on.

kickass...
you're very inspiring
i also have the same problem, never going into details, but lately i've started doing it

just feels like when i get the image to certain point it seems pointless to go on, since everything's there

keep it up :)

nice sparth. looks pretty finished you just need to finish it off, some areas look like pure colours and yet they would have dirt, lighting of gradient or some such. the pure colour values work though, dont know its up to you how to finish maybe add some details in the beams. etc. good work

Dude that looks very cool, i like the colours and form. From my perpective the unfinshed look for me works co it adds a sense of perspective.

Awesome scale you've established. My eye keeps going strait to that structure in the near background. Awesome details on the top solar panel thing. The area on the bottom right, with the interesting shapes works very well. Althouth, it'd be nice to see that walkway light up a bit more, slowly, as it leads away from us. Maybe, and what gave me this idea was the black border on the left...work in some awesome silhouttes on the left and upper left to point us back in the pic, like we're under a rigging or upper support structure. Might be interesting. Maybe lessen the brightness on the left middle of the pic too. Otherwise, great sketch!

Real nice! I'm glad you say you're gonna push further on the detail. Great perspective, somewhat claustrophobic - yet pleasing - composition, sweet lighting, intriguing structure, refreshing morning atmosphere... one can nearly hear the lapping of the water on the floating iron walkways... shall I go on?
Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to your vacation from the Vague!
Beautiful work, Sparth!:D
