I guess I'm just a n00b on this forum, and thought I would post a couple of life drawings (they're about a year old). These are from my portfolio. I'm still growing as a figure artist, it's my love and quest for improvement... but my life has been somewhat in a state of change recently, keeping me from developing a regular figure-drawing session attendance.

crits welcome

Anyone know of cheap/free figure drawing in or near San Fernando Valley area? I start working in Sherman Oaks soon.

all were done on 18"x24" white Canson with Nupastel

These are terrific! Thanks for sharing with us.

How long were these poses for?

Thanks for the compliments. It really has been quite awhile since I've worked from a live model, with results that I've been pleased with....so no scans of those.

These poses were for 3 hours (minus model breaks of course) apiece, all done in class.

THose are beautiful. No crits really, great combination of tone and line. Hope you get back on the figure drawing horse, please post when you do. It'd be cool to see some quicker studies as well. :)

nice work nixon, i goto school at laafa (http://www.laafigart.com/) which is located in sherman oaks (at the moment, altho its moving to van nuys in a couple of weeks) i think there's still time to sign up for classes but you'd have to pay a late fee of 20$. or you could just attend the workshops and pay each time you go...

if you have anymore questions about it ask away.

keep it up!

Hey Nixon, nice work,

Nice simplicity, great delineation between your light and dark shapes. IMO In the second one, in the face/hat....id like to have seen a couple more values, so it doesnt toally flatten out and lose structure/appeal, especially in a head where all interest rests. The flat undefined face moves my focus to the arm....which is weird to me. Personally, I can only pick on small things in these, overall they are very nice, and the style is interesting.

1st and 3rds are my favs.

Solid work,
Art :)
