well i've been here long enought to make my 1st post :D
i'm very new to drawing, started about a month (or less) ago and i think i'm making good progress. i'm using a few books for reference ( how to draw comics the marvel way and a few manga books ) in addition to some web sites.
i have a question which hopefully you guys won't mind answering....
which book is the best that teaches you how to shade the human body? any websites?
i don't have a digi cam yet, :( so i can't post any of my sketches, but that soon to be corrected

I would recommend you practice getting the anatomy of the human body figured out before you try shading one, otherwise you may find yourself very confused, and not sure why things looks wrong (and out of proportion.).

learn drawing real life objects!!!!
Comics and mangas are abstractions of true life art and is not good learning to draw directly comics and mangas.
you will need to learn how reality is, shading, shapes ect.. learn to see things, observings with other eyes.. searching .
Then draw evrerything you like but always exercise with real life drawing it really make the difference, so you'll make your own abstraction from reality and not just copying the solution that other people made before.
Try to find a book of anatomy for artists.. knowing shading of humans is knowing anatomy, skeleton and muscles that move under our skin and give it the shape.
I found really useful burne hogart's (creator of tarzan in comics) collection of books on drawings.
study, draw whatt you like and exercise on reality.
DRAW DRAW DRAW
always.. that make the dfference..!!!

another thing about shading..
1) Observe lights and shading around you, shadows on people and objects are always wher your mind doesn't expect them.. (we have wrong memories about things we look at, we remember eyes , noses, teeth, details, but our memory does't remember that maybe the face we were talking to were totally in shadow..)
2) master of lights are photograpers and movie directors, so learn watching movies end pictures in different ways, studying them, (i often sit watchin tv with my schetch book exploring shapes, lights and point of views inaspected to my mind).
I hope you'll find something useful
good job
