...well, kinda.

Howdy Conceptart people,

Admiring so much work here, it -is- a little intimidating to post, but I think I need some feedback from people like all y'all.

This is my most recent piece:

This was the pencil drawing it started off with:

I have an interest in book illustration. I try to cook up a piece initially and use that as a basis to see what kind of narrative could unfold from it.

Please let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,
syn

If you were a little intimidated to post, I should've been scared wittless. You've just got to go for it, and if you don't get replies, just try again.

On to the picture though. I really like this scratchy, grungey look thats going on. I'm reminded of when a laminate doesn't take on an image, and it bubbles. The character himself is really cool, he gives off this eerie feeling though he wouldn't seem to be outright freaky. Kind of like a silent hill monster.

My only complaint is the blood on the character. It looks to me like it was just thrown on, especially on the glove.

The hallway looks kind of like the apartment building across the street from me.

Great job.:chug:

Thanks for responding Michael_H!

I agree with you about the blood splatters - I've got a lot more experimenting to do in that area. I actually used to paint on all the blood in my pics, but recently I've been trying out this overlaying texture technique.

Thanks so much for the feedback, it's invaluable.

Cheers matey,

Your style would make for an interesting comic book.

No other comments really, since I don't know the intent of this piece.

Post more! :)

geez, really clean pencil work, i love the paint spatters and such in the painting. the one thing i'm unsure of is the black thing over his eyes... is he being censored? or are they a pair of sunglasses? great piece! keep posting please~

Very cool concept. I can't believe you were scared to post!

Currently I still have nothing to post on here, and after seeing all this, might wait a while still.

Great concpet. Very well done. It gets kind of dark toward the bottom, not sure if this is intentional. It makes it somewhat hard to see what he's wearing, I wasn't aware of it until I saw the black and white sketch below.

Great work. Keep it up.

Thank you for responding everyone!

Tedsuo: Yeah, comics have kinda been my thing for a while but lately I've been leaning more towards children's books (well, picture books for mature readers, at any rate). Thanks for the reply!

battlemonkey: The black thing -was- supposed to be a censor type thing. I had this idea of an animation where the black bar over the eyes went wobbling along as he moved around... (small things amuse small minds, huh?). Thank you for your comments!

platypusStar: Thank you! The darkness/obscurity twards the bottom was actually intentional this time (for the first time in my life, the majority of a picture was not made by accident!). I fiddled around for ages trying to marry the figure with the setting. All previous attempts made him too prominent and unharmonius with the background. Thanks again for stopping by!

lauri: Thanks so much for your comments! I'm currently working on some kind of story for this character - - the way I like to work on personal projects is to finish a full piece, tape it to a wall and start brainstorming story ideas from that initial image. I'm open to suggestions, by the way!!

Thank you all again for taking the time to respond, you've given me the impetus to continue working on this!

Cheers,
syn
