Pirate Club entry WIP

I'm entering this into a contest on artbq, and I'm looking for as much help as I can get. I'm going for the classic portrait look, the final painting will have a frame and overhead lighting to make it look like it's in an art gallery of sorts.

Looks good overall but I might warm it up with a few tints of a burnt sienna or even a burnt umber. A lot of times the classic portraits had sort of a spotlight in the background where the corners were a little darker as well.

I am not sure what the contest is or anything but right now he is looking a little like santa claus in overalls and not really that much of a pirate. Not quite craggy enough in the face to me and I don't quite get the overalls.
