Hi there everyone, I'm new here and I have been so inspired that I just have to buy a wacom tablet. But I can't work out whether it will be worth spending the extra cash and getting an a3. Do you think I'll manage on an A4 for now? Please advise, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Keep up the excelent work.

I have an Intuos 2 9X12. Which, I believe, is the same as the European A4. This size is perfect. I think you'll find that the A3 is a bit overkill.

I use a slightly smaller (6x8) model at work that also works well.

Good luck.

Graphic artists at my work, Jon and Roberto told me get Wacom Graphire2 that they are best, right size and cheap $100. Also that you can carry with you almost everywhre you go.

I hope this help....

A3/A4 I never heard them.......

Thanks Guys. I think I'll go with the A4, the A3 does seem a little overkill now that you mention it. Besides I dont know where I'd fit the damn thing.I,m look forward to posting my first artwork real soon.
Later:D

Hi,

Mitch is right,the 9x12 is about A4. Itīs nice when you can afford an A3 but itīs better to beef your comp up and use the A4. I personally have got a cheap A4 board at home and wonīt go under it. Bigger would be a problem for me because it gets clumsy and I havenīt got the place on my desk :D.

Donīt go for the Graphire if you can afford an Intuos, whatever size. It hasnīt got the tilting ability and just half the sensitivity. So you would be hampered especially when youīre using Painter (Iīm one of the hampered people, too, I know what Iīm talking about ;)).

I got an old refurbished Graphire on Ebay for $40 roughly. It works fine for me.:)

It depends all on how you draw..

If you are use to drawing on a large sketchpad, and drawing from your arm then get a bigger tablet.. if you are use to using a little tiny sketch pad to draw, and draw from the wrist get a smaller tablet..

The reason a large tablet is nice, is so that you dont have to zoom in as much to work on details.... a 9x 12 or a4 are the happy medium between too small and too large.. I suggest them the most..

If you have a laptop though get the smaller version, its a lot easier to transport...

peace.

Hi all, i'm new to this forum and i hope to get lots of inspiration from you guys and gals :)

I'm also pretty new to graphics in general, and i was as well thinking about getting a graphic tablet, this is why i popped up at first in this thread. :)

I was investigating an online catalog of a computer franchising here where i live (italy) and found out the following Wacoms:

-Volito 127x93 mm (i think an A6 or something alike), 1000dpi resolution, +/- 0.5 mm precision, 512 pressure levels, sold at the price of €59.89;

-Graphire2 127x93 mm (same as above), 1000dpi resolution, +/- 0.5 mm precision, 512 pressure levels, sold at the price of €99.90;

-Intous2 A6 127x106 mm, 2540dpi resolution, +/- 0.25 mm precision, 1024 pressure levels, sold at the price of €220;

Since i'm still a student, the latter that is obviously the better one is not still very affordable for me.
Now i would like to know which are the basic differences between the Volito tablet and the Graphire2. The price is almost twice for the latter!!! I don't really mind if one comes with only the pen and the other with the mouse aswell, as long as i will be able to use my normal mouse i already have.

Do you think i will be able to start working and following your tutorials and advices for painting various subjects with a Volito or Graphire2? The path to professionality is still long and troubled for me!!!

Thanks in advance to all who will respond to me! :p

I bought my $400 tablet for school and don't regret dumping the cash for it. I never regetted it. I used it after school and paid for it 10x over. I absolutely can't imagine working digitally without it. Painting with a mouse? yeah right.

Do your self a favor, do whatever you have to (legally) and get yourself AT LEAST an Intous 2. Even if you get the little one but at least you'll have the pressure sensitive, brush angle, features at your disposal.

trust me on this, I'm sure other users on this forum could back me up on this statement.

Hi, since I first started this thread I have done some reading. I'm not sure what the first tablet you mention is all about but the difference between the graphire and Intuos 2 is that the graphire only has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, where as the intuos has 1024 and it can change the shape of your brush stroke when your pen is tilted up to 60 degrees. I posted the same thread in the lounge area, go check it out there might be some useful info there. If you really cant afford the intuos, some else made the comment that just breaking into the realm of tablets is a good start. Once you check out some of the tutorials you'll notice they talk about the overall process rather specific brush pressure or tilt angle.
Good luck:)

I gone to get Intous 2 4x5 instead of Graphire. Intous 2 is better than Graphire. I done my homework.

It is totally up to you, what you to get.

Thanks a lot for the advices, i will investigate some more computer shops in my zone and finally decide... i know me would like to get Intous2, but the money is a big problem right now... i will look for a compromise ;)

Anyways, thanks again!
